OK gentlemen. This years event is sneaking up on us Father's day weekend.

http://www.qgthreads.com/index.cfm

Lets work on a head count for this year and see if we should organize some specific activities for all Maxxers and their groups.

Come on all, those of you not familiar with Davenport, IA or the Quad Cities here it is. Roughly 2.5 hours west of Chicago and nearly the same East of Des Moines, IA. We are and the event is on the banks of the Mississippi River. We are not far from Missouri, Minnesota, and Wisconsin either.

Contact me for any further details.

If you need to crash I have a room for ya! Ok so it hasn't been remodeled yet so you'll have to deal with the ballerina wall paper that the old owners installed but it does have a queen bed and your own bath. I want my jacket too! :biglaugh:

I have another room with a day bed and trundle to.

Not sure if I can make this but if I am riding and not out of town I will make it.

I find it quite boring but the rides with a bunch of bikes is fun and looking at all the other bikes is cool.

Bring sunscreen!!!

Chris

Oh and I added it to the calendar.

I'm leaving Friday around 3ish to be there around 6ish. If we're meeting up somewhere lemme know! I'll be rolling with my buddy that has the Goldwing and one of his friends as well. All of our wives are coming out with us this event.

So we're showing Friday, leaving Sunday AM. Happy B-Day and Fathers Day to me. :D

I need to get some numbers together for the breakfast run. If everyone could post how many people will be in you group including significant others I will try and get reservations made.

Also, what all are you guys planning for on Saturday. I need to know if everyone wants to plan some area rides, poker runs, entertainment, or just to mainly listen to music, drink some beer and look at the bikes and attractions. The museum here in town just opened a motorcycle exhibit called "Rare Rides"... interested?

Just looking for overall input. I live quite close to the event site so I plan to have some refreshments/clean bathrooms along with A/C if needed for a break. Not much room for sitting at the event.

Let me know.

I need to make sure the wife and I are open, but I think we are just coming up Friday afternoon/night maybe we can grab a bite to eat with everyone and head back. I think we are planning on going boating on Saturday, and maybe we could just bring the boat up to the quad cities and if you guys need a quick shower, you can just jump in the river for a quick dip or wakeboarding or something.... that river will be very clean this time of year... farmers aren't putting any kind of chems on the fields or applying any hog crap, so you should be good to go.

I grew up IN the river as we boated from age of two till about 4 years ago on it so nothing scares me... It's NOT "clean" however due to the rain. It has kicked up a bit of mud but like I said... No biggie here! I will be going Friday for sure and Saturday AM but Susan and I are then going to the lake to be with my father on fathers day.

I may be going to bike night on Thursday too but weather isn't looking great.

FYI: If it's raining I WILL NOT be participating. :whistlin:

I was just thinking as well that our offices are also VERY close to Sturgis so if Nathan doesn't want a million bikes and people in his home we can come here and cool off and have ALL KINDS of asphalt parking available.:biglaugh:

OK Nathan just called me worried that they may move the meet as the river is once again on the rise...

I check out the QC Times and it looks like it will crest on Friday at 17.7 feet but keep in mind that around 15 is flood stage which means where we are supposed to be will be under several inches of water.

So keep an eagle eye at this thread for changes to the rally spot!

Chris

Sturgis on the River won’t be Sturgis in the River this weekend.

Organizers of the motorcycle event said today the event will be moved out off Davenport’s riverfront because of high water. It is traditionally held on the riverfront, west of Centennial Bridge and LeClaire Park.

Most of the LeClaire Park and the adjacent riverfront will be under water at 17 feet — and the Mississippi River is expected to crest at 17.7 feet early Friday.

A new location for Sturgis was being considered this morning, but no decision has been made. The event, scheduled to begin Thursday, runs through Saturday night.

“Sturgis will still happen, but we’re not sure where,” said Debbie Birely, of Indoor/Outdoor Productions, Sturgis’ promotion company.

The city has enacted its flood plan for the second time this year. The plates for the floodwall at Modern Woodmen Park were installed this morning. The Quad-City River Bandits begin a scheduled homestand tonight which runs through June 15.

“The city is taking precautions, but we are going to play and plan to play here all week,” Kirk Goodman, River Bandits general manager, said.

More rain is expected today in the Quad-Cities before 1 p.m. with a high near 76 degrees, then we’ll get a brief break from the rain Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain returns to the forecast Wednesday night and the threat continues through Saturday with severe thunderstorms and heavy rain possible, especially Thursday night and Friday.

Minor to major flooding will continue on the Mississippi River and area rivers.

Local river levels

Here’s a summary of where area rivers levels are this morning, their predicted crests and how flooding will affect the area.

Mississippi River at Rock Island — (15 feet flood stage) Currently at 12.4 feet. Forecast: Crest 17.7 feet on Friday. Flooding will affect the railroad tracks in downtown Davenport and River Drive, Pershing Avenue and Federal Street, LeClaire Park and lower parking lots, Credit Island Lane, houses along South Concord Street and on Enchanted Island. Affected in Moline will be the 4700 block of River Drive. Water will be at the base of the floodwall gates at the downtown Rock Island riverfront. In Bettendorf, water will affect Leach Park.
If the rain continues like they say I WILL NOT be attending.

OH SHIT!

Over 42,000 sandbags and 4 pumps have been sent to the Iowa City area. Officials believe that the Coralville Reservoir could top its spillway and flood Iowa City by Tuesday.

They say that water levels for the Iowa River could be similar to the floods of 1993.

I talked to my wife.... we are both planning on coming down on Friday, but she will need to get home in decent time since she has grad school all day Sat. and Sun. so that actually leaves me open to come back up to the quadcities and maybe go for a ride with everyone.... I'm not positive on that, but it is looking good.

As far as the flooding is going, my pontoons are getting strapped to my bike as we speak.

Great.
Who all is in for dinner Friday night? This would be easy to plan regardless of weather. If everyone would prefer fair type food we can just head to the rally. But, if everyone would prefer a meal of sorts I can set that up at several places. I would like to know everyone's preferences on either or type of food/restaurant.

The event goes till midnight each night. A sit down place for dinner would be my preference as well. There is plenty of places between your hotel and the event. A great mexican place w/ Dos Equis on tap or plenty of bar and grill places w/ Fat Tire on tap. Or we could go slightly nicer for the ladies since we will be making them rought it for the rest of the weekend. Give me a type of food or price point your all thinking and I'll come up with something.

Friday night dinner is no longer in the air unless anyone has major objections.

Thunder Bay Grille in Davenport (also part of the Heart of America chain). This is just down the road from the Des Moines people's hotel. It will be a great place to relax for dinner after your ride down. They said they can set us up easily for between 16 and 25 people. They have a private room but aren't sure they can get us in there. They will be trying for one long table but we may just end up grouped. The biggest penalty to these two places is they are both adding on gratuity due to our size(18% at Thunder). But seems fair for accommodating this size group on a Friday night. We were all but told no chance at our first choices mentioned here.

Any issues or concerns?

BTW. how about the restaurant themes... THUNDER bay grill, CHECKER FLAG grille. Vmax all the way.

Yep, boating is out, I might try to make it over Sat. morning for breakfast, and meet a few more of the guys then head back to my hometown... they are having their annual "Fun Days" so there are a few buddies that will be there that I haven't seen in a while... oh, and there will be plenty of beer to drink as well. So park the bike at my parents house and hammer on the Bud... weiser that is.

Sorry I keep "missing" your calls/texts Nathan. I tend to check my phone at work and don't like to call people back while I'm at third shift (but I think they appreciate that)! The bad part is I then tend to forget all my messages!

I'm penciled in for a ride with the M109 boys from ontheboulevard.org on Saturday, and am supposed to go to a graduation party early Friday evening! :( Trying to get out of it, but who knows.

Well, I-80 is closed so I'm not sure if I am going to make it....

http://hb.511ia.org/main.jsf

It appears that 22 is still open, but we will see when they will be closing that. Dustin, we'll be in touch tomorrow, and try to make plans, but I'm not holding my breath for this weather to hold out. I really want to make it and meet some of those who I haven't had the chance to meed yet, but mother nature may have something else planned.

I'll try to touch base with Chris, Nathan, and Dustin tomorrow.

As I look at the map zoomed in, it only looks like 2 miles of I-80 is closed. I can ride through Iowa City, over to what looks to be Baker Ave. (County HWY X30) in West Branch, take that south to HWY 6, east to HWY 38, and back North to I-80 and be on our Merry way.

I can't see the map now, but I thought a section of 6 was closed, thus the route I stated above. Am I wrong?

I'm still going to try and make it, I think my wife is backing out though. I think Highway 22 is still open (for now anway) and we could always take that.

Dustin, I'll call you later this afternoon.

Thanks to everyone for coming out Susan and I enjoyed seeing everyone and would love to see you all again. I'm sorry Susan and I left early but fathers day was more important.
