    Bad starter clutch

Well, this have been thought into already. I like the solution and agrees that one big issue is the poor design that the three m8 bolts takes up all the force. Thread 'Starter clutch repair/mod' https://www.vmaxforum.net/threads/starter-clutch-repair-mod.48312/

    Bad starter clutch

After 26k miles, the bike suffered the common loose bolts problem. I will replace the clutch and bolts and try to secure with strong threadlock plus peening of the bolt ends. However, I am not satisfied with the original design and will take measures for a future redesign with a stronger and...

Mineral oil loses viscosity when warm

A friend of mine is an experienced Harley rider / builder and also a very skilled mechanic (which is useful when riding certain brands). We discussed my ongoing project of mounting an oil pressure gauge on the Vmax. On his latest build he mounted a gauge which is common on HDs. He noted that...

Oil leakage on wheel / rim

quite easy fix, I followed the manual and replaced the shaft seal and the big oring. Took the opportunity to grease the shaft spline and clean stuff up. Just be careful not to put dirt into the housing when cleaning up, the needle roller bearing in the assembly is sensitive.

Oil leakage on wheel / rim

1997 gen 1 Vmax I see a small puddle of oil straight under the wheel (bike on center stand). It looks like the seal for the outgoing axle has given up. Any tips or howtos for this? Anything else that should be checked when doing the repair? The plan is to follow the Haynes workshop manual for...

    1st Gen V-Max Gen 1 VMX1200

Picture shows last years first run for the season with icy waters and snow still left in some areas. You can see people walking on the Ice...

    Oil leak left side

Correct, the starting problem was due to weak charging from a broken voltage regulator rectifier. A new unit is on its way.

    Oil leak left side

Update regarding oil leakage, I have changed the washer on the drain plug next to the gear shifter, it looked suspicious. I replaced the copper washer with a Tredo washer made for hydraulic systems.

    Oil leak left side

The empty battery was caused by a faulty rectifier, a new one has been ordered. So this had nothing to do with the oil leakage.

    Oil leak left side

This might be a long shot but anyway.. Yesterday after a 30 minute ride I tried to restart the engine after shutting it off but the battery did not have enough power. Only slow rotation until finally stop - just as if the battery was empty. Could this be reltaed to the oil leak problem in some way?

I felt directly under and around the rubber boot but there was no oil present. I will check more during the next few days.

    Oil leak left side

Hi, after running and standing still for the night I notice a small 1-1/2 inch puddle of oil ynder the engine. The puddle is directly below the left foot peg and when touching the engine underneath I get oily fingers. I have had the bike at a shop where they believed that the problem was the...
