Anytime I read something like, "my bike flooded my workshop w/fuel," I feel compelled to mention that if you have a leaking-fuel bike, stop the flow from the tank, drain the carbs, and ventilate wherever you store the bike immediately, until you have no fumes present.

This might seem like a simple thing to do, but people are burned every year, and homes are lost, because of leaking vehicles. Sometimes it costs someone their life.

If you have a gas heater, either for water or for central heat, or a space heater, a leaking vehicle can create an explosive atmosphere quickly. Fumes from the leak can travel even to another room, or across a large room, like a garage, to a source of ignition, the working gas water heater, the home furnace, or a space heater.

If you have to work on a fueling issue, do it outside, and keep doors and windows closed in the vicinity.

I removed my newly refurbished carbs for the second time to strip down and figure out why the float valve was flooding my workshop with fuel. :ummm::bang head:

I didn't do much to my max, but put some fuel stabilizer through it and getting ready to put it away for the winter. I then focused on moving a few things to the storage out back to make room for the Beast. which should be here next week. :biglaugh:

Replaced one of the LED drop in 1157 running/brake fixtures. It had vibrated enough to break the solder joints between the base and the LED board. I think I may be able to just re-solder it.

The Beast arrived and now is in my garage. All I can say is holy shit! I pulled the bodywork off and it's now thawing, from the trip up. Tomorrow, it gets a bath and I plan on taking a couple hours worth of photographs and start the engine removal and chassis rebuild and powdercoating. Sean, I can't thank you enough for helping me get back to the one thing I truly miss.

Awesome! Glad it made it there! Hopefully it's what you were expecting.

Can't wait to hear the story. That truly is a beast:punk:

Got it all degreased and cleaned up. Now its time to tag and inventory and disassemble. :) The shop mascot is a little thin, I think I need to feed Mr. Fink a little more.

I may have missed the 'reveal' about this VMax dragbike. Is it something from Jon Cornell's collection, that Sean bought, and re-sold to you? What times & speeds has it turned? Are you going to treat it as a hobby for racing? What's the displacement? What types of power-adders does it have? Does it have a centrifugal lock-up clutch? Is the chassis a VMax front & fabricated rear graft-on? What's the intake set-up? The straight velocity stacks remind me of Kinsler fuel injection systems.

I'm sure everyone is going to be watching come next spring, assuming you are ready to run it then.

Got a new battery and I'm planning on firing up the Beast this afternoon. I was doing some research on the ignition in it. All I have to say is, pretty damn cool.

It's one that Sean has had for several years. We made the deal last month, and it was delivered Friday. Its a dry block, the water pump has been removed and the drive milled and a plate added to cover where the water pump used to be. Size wise its a little over 1300. Chassis wise, its a Vmax chassis with an 8 over swingarm that is bolted on with struts. The front is a smaller forked unit with a spoke wheel. The intake is a modified mechanical Hilborn on alcohol. The ignition is a modified, distributer-less, car ignition with allot of nice features.

As far as racing, we are getting a local track built in the next few years, til then its off to Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer. As far as the clutch, I can't tell ya, I haven't looked. I'm going to fire it up this afternoon and give a listen, Paul and Sean, both said it will sound pretty nasty. Then the engine comes out.

Over this winter, I'm going to replace all the fuel lines, air lines and wiring and put everything in looms and get the chassis coated and everything looking pretty. I'm expecting to be done with that by the end of November, being I can do pretty much all of it in the garage, so no out of pocket. I already have new grips, leavers and master cyls, from parts I rattholed for my other max, as well as a new oil cooler, before I went in a different direction with it. The Harlan shift light has been removed from Archangel and will be on the Beast.

While the engine is out, I'm going to look at a few things, clutch, oil pump, trans, etc. I'm going to put a camera down the cyls to see how things are looking there. Then the engine will get new paint. Next winter, it's coming out again and will more than likely get bigger. I'm looking at 1500+ and a stroked falicon supercrank.

As far as the body, I'm just going to run with the side panels, front and rear fenders, a wind screen w/dummy headlight, and the dummy tank, which will be cut to allow for longer intake tubes. I'm not going to put the scoops on it as the Hilborn is just too damn sexy and I want that to be the focal point of the engine. A few friends agree with my dad that it would look better without them.

Paintwise, it will be the same blue that one of my helmets sport. Gold celtic knots are going to be used for additional graphics, along with the contingency decals.

So far, looking through it, it is really well put together and clean for its age. Light too. Unloading it from the trailer we ran out of ramp so I picked up the front end and wheelbarrowed it off. I would be surprised if it weighed more than 550lbs. My goal is to have it all done and reassembled by December. Then I'll put it in some shows and if the little dude on my left shoulder wins the argument, I'll take it a little but out of town and make a few half passes. In my relax time, I'm still working on the data logger and it should give me enough for for a good HP and ET estimate.

Try to get all that electronics stuff figured out. I wanted to offer that for years but never really took the time to figure out what they did. They were going to modify the heads and run double plugs so they could run nitro methane. That's why there was 4 unused plug wires over to the back.

I've had it a long time and the bike was built about 20 miles from me. The block was assembled by the same machinist I use for our engine work (and who directed me to the guy that had the bike stored away).

awesome looking ride man....

Must sound wild with the way you got the pipes...

What front form set up is that...

Thank you! The exhaust is still not completed, but it sounds great. The baffles need a little cleanup work and planning to ceramic coat entire exhaust over the winter. The front forks are 2009 Yamaha R1. The custom triple tree and much of the front end components were purchased from Sean Morley. Btw, great experience working on this build with Sean assisting with several parts and fitment.

Must be a awesome ridea. ..
Ya sean is a great wealth of knowledge

Well, it's that time of the year again. Went for a last ride on both bikes, filed them up with gas and some Seafoam, dropped the oil in my wife's bike and changed oil and filter.

Took the drain plug out of the Vmax and all of the threads from the oil pan came out with the drain pan bolt :bang head:

Good thing that I have a spare one, just need to order and gasket replace. I guess that the silver lining is that I will be checking the o-ring to see if it is ok or popping out.

Mike

Probably can use an oversize self tapping bolt or repair bolt for the pan. It's a reasonably thick area comparatively.
