Howdy to all!.....
just put new fork oil seals on my '89....All Balls seals(silicone or eurethane...not rubber)valvoline full synth atf(stinky stuff...why stinky?).No major issues on fork tubes in reference to dings and nicks on sliders..sanded forks with600 grit paper...smooth and oil retentative...umm oh yeah...got 16 oz of atf in each fork..manual says 20 ozs....thats a lot!...the atf is 7-10 weight.sound good to y'alll?...yell back when ya can...hungry to get this scary thing back on road.And I apologize for no pics yet...Peace....SV
 
^ The ATF fluid is fine.
But from what I've heard/read the OEM fork seals last a LOT longer than those all balls seals.
My OEM seals lasted from 2000 until last year, so I got 13 years out of them.
And I replaced them with OEM seals and 10 wt. Maxima Racing Fork Fluid.

There are quite a few guys that said that the All Ball seals are junk and don't last long at all:
