has anyone had experience with filling in the embossed yamaha on the scopps with welding or any other method before chroming the scoops. i did see one at a bike show some time ago and really like to do it on my bike.

You could use HST2000 rods to fill the letters. They melt at a decent temp 750 degrees F. I'm sure the distributor can verify the use of chrome over them. I've repaired scoops with them before as well as carburetor bodies. Mapp gas will do it.

Never heard of it done successfully. You will always see some remnants of the lettering.
The dissimilar materials is the problem.

I need to finish the test scoop we have with the low temp weld rod and send it in and see how it turns out.

There is a metal filler putty used successfully under Powdercoat. I have no experience under chrome. Why not called a chrome shop and ask? They fill pot metal all the time before copper plating and chrome.
