hello everyone, can a electic fan/blowermotor be used to pressurize the vmax airbox air intake, and in effect supercharge the engine while it provides the electricity for the induction fan? 3to7 lbs. boost ?

I think it would take an extremely high speed fan of a centrifugal type to pull this off. Or eaton or roots type. There is one unit out there that is a simple fan that claims to generate 1 PSI.
Even if the motor was supplying the HP to drive the Generator to supply power I don't think the generator on the Max would handle the load.

Here's a couple for the car market but power consumption looks pretty high and backup batteries look like they are being used as well to keep from roasting the main car battery.

Nitrous is still the best bang for the buck. Or a real supercharger.

Now a small weedeater type blower WILL do it and I have seen it done as a lark by a few of the sport compact crowd but your gonna look funny pulling over to start your two stroke blower before racing, your bikes gonna smell wierd and sound even wierder.

It would also be fairly difficult to tune a fuel delivery system to make it work right.

I actually saw a video of some guys that took a honda car and blew a weed blower straight into the intake upstream of the MAF sensor while doing a dyno run.

They then took a nitrous bottle and opened the valve blowing the nitrous into the suction part of the weedblower.

The results were pretty impressive.

There is a website showing this somewhere.I think you are right about it needing too many amps for the vmax to handle.

Didn't Ibrahim have some kind of dc fan rigged up at some point in his airbox?

Yes he did and the whole Yahoo group got a big kick out of it. The only way to gain any power is to have a sealed system that forces the air in and compresses it. Any opening at all, and the air, like water or electricity, will take the path of least resistance. The guy tried a lot of silly things, like the spirals in the down tubes, and always found more HP. He had no real knowledge of what would work and what wouldn't. Electric just isn't going to work since way too much electric power would be needed to compress air at the rate the engine would need it..

I do remember watching a video clip about the electric superchargers. They made enough power to lift the fan off of the ground and fly across the room.

I've got a link to an electric supercharger but the suvker is pretty expensive and only gives out 15 second bursts as it uses up its battery storage. It's only really practical for small cars though.

Most of the electric fans will not actually work once you start giving restriction (which is boost) to the airflow.

Now, I haven't had any time to fart with it but you could make a very inexpensive low boost supercharger by using a cars smog pump. It would still require a lot of fabrication.

It's called the eRam and is the only "proven" electric supercharger. It draws over 60 amps (almost 1000 watts) when it runs and is only meant for short bursts. I think you set it up to turn on when you floor the gas pedal and produces a true 1 PSI of boost. In any case, 60 amps would make the charging system of the VMax explode! LOL.

I just saw this on ebay and remembered this thread, so I thought I would post it... check out it out...
Item number: 370017826476

If someone is willing to spend the $80, I'll do all the testing??????

Trust me , those "superchargers" are useless. You can make better use of your money than that. Most of the "electric superchargers" you see are exhaust fans.

I just read the auction. It does not say what the amp draw is anywhere so I emailed the guy.I'll let you know when he gives me an answer.

I also am wondering what pressurizing the carbs is going to do?Blow gas out of the vent tubes?

This is one of the problems with putting turbos on.

Yeah, I wouldn't even try this unless I had fuel injection.

I would guess it would be worthless, but it would be fun to try (IMHO). I have wasted $80 much faster and all I had to show for it was a hangover and an empty stomach.... sometimes not even that if I'm at the casino. I did see some that were even cheaper (around $50). I used to be in R/C cars and some planes, and I think it might be worth taking 4 - 540 motors and hooking up some deducted fan/tubes to each carb. You could hook up a progressive controller to the throttle. I'm sure I'll never get around to it, but it would be fun to try! Where are all those single guys with lots of time and $$???

4GASEM? iT'S ALREADY BLACK!

Jeff, I've got some other ideas on a similar subject we can discuss when you come down.

Well I have a '90 Supercharged Cougar that makes 10 psi boost @ 1100rpm and 12-13psi boost @ 4000rpm. All I can say is, why tease yourself with 1 psi?

When you drive the car, 3psi is where you really start to feel the effects, 5 psi is peppy, 7psi is very spirited and 10 = all hell's gonna break loose :)

I'd take a real supercharger anyday over an electric or turbo. No lag, & very reliable if built right. My power is there at any RPM and throttle position.

It's now got 200,000 miles on the original motor and still running strong. I've replaced the timing chain as a PM item, and it had head gaskets once, but they were kinda known for that problem. Supercharger oil has been replaced only once (Use GM fluid as it's cheaper)

I rigged up 4 blow dryers that run off d batteries along with drilling some holes in my muffler and its much gooder and faster now.
Next month I am going to rig up a leaf blower to act as a turbo just cant find anything longer then a 500 ft extention cord
