Check-out this Pontiac, two adjoining cylinders of a 389 V8.

And from the belt-drive end:

Like the Tempest once used a 4-cyl engine which was one cyl bank of the 389 c.i. Pontiac, this is two adjoining cylinders of that Tempest. It has Hillborn fuel injection and a GMC 2-71 supercharger. It turns 5,500 rpm. Scale that up to a 5 liter and that's 808 HP! Reduce the stress on the engine by 25% to help it live longer, that's still 606 HP! Thompson used a rail dragster frame and the build turned 106 mph in the standing mile, and 91 mph in the standing km. It's < 91 cu. in. and used nitromethane to make 257 HP. He used this build to break a FIA record previously-held by a Maserati streamliner.
