I am doing some online research on removing the rear wheel to change the tire, paint the swing arm, etc.

I noticed the how-to videos on YouTube show a crown nut with a cotter pin: .

Mine looks like this.

Diff Nut.jpg

The fiche shows 90185-18009-00 or 90185-18167-00.

Partzilla and others show something that is not a crown nut.

The service manual shows a crown nut on page 6-6 (245).

Vman23: Rear axle bolt seems to look like mine.

Did the nut Yamaha used change over time?

Yes the 2nd video is mine and I should have mentioned the change . The earlier years had a crown nut and cotter key and they switched to just a locking nut.
