Hello,
I have a model year 2005 20th Anniversary Edition, VIN JYA2WEE025A090049, with 44,000 miles on it. Very pristine bike.

Unfortunately, in keeping it that way, some former owner polished off the serial number from the chrome 20th Anniversary logo on the fake tank.
any way to tell what number it is in the 2000 bike series from the VIN number?
Thanks much.

With that VIN, I suspect your # would also be low. Let's see how other 2005 owners report-in.

Note that there were a number of bikes that did not get assigned to the 1 of 2000. The engravings are not easily removed so it's more likely that your bike was after that. The vin starting numbers are below and with your vin be over 1000 more then the 49 state bikes not including the Cali bikes I also believe it is likely you have one past the first 2000 with the special engraving.

Model Model Year PNC Market Colour
5GKR VMX12 05 10 49 State 2WE-0088992 DRMK
5GKS VMX12 05 10 California 2WF-0015672 DRMK
5GKT VMX12 05 10 Canada 2LT-0035314 DRMK
5GKV VMX12 05 10 Other (ZAF) 2LT-0036045 DRMK

My 2005 VIN ends in 88996. Pic of emblem below.

So is the limited "X of 2000" engraved onto the emblem, painted on, or just a sticker? Would love to hear from someone first hand with a pic.

That is the correct tag and being the 4th bike I would of expected it to be engraved. I don't have an example pic to share so hopefully someone else has one?

The emblem is in the form of xxxx/2000. I have posted pics of an emblem on a 2005 on here if someone wants to search. It shows the emblem has a small tag affixed to the engine emblem on the faux tank cover.

OK I found it.

Here's a pic of one I have. Notice the engraved tag is a second piece affixed to the 20th Edition tag shaped like a rotary engine piece.

Awesome, thank you. I'll post up something if i figure it a way to forge one that looks legit. 😜

In these days of laser-cutting and engraving, some searching for the people who perform this type of work, should turn up something. Getting the emblem scanned and having a tag fabricated should be not too-difficult. See that the number tag is slightly-smaller than the blank 'rocker' space on the 20th Edition medallion. You might consider ordering three of them, in-case you lose the replacement.

I know there's a company that makes aluminum plates which are reproductions of electric motor tags, or other medallions on industrial equipment or things like cabinet saws or other construction equipment. As I recall the price was $50 apiece. I think they're somewhere on the West Coast. I'll try to find that info.

OK here's an example of what this East Coast (NJ) guy can do.

He uses as one component 0.02" aluminum and then prints the label.

Here is one place, there are others.
