I came across these after hearing about the concept "Gen2" that Yamaha supposedly displayed at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show(there is one "concept bike" listing that doesn't have a photo). All the TMS websites are archived, and most have pictures/blurbs of all the displays. Here's a few interesting ones...

2005- "Gen Ryu"

"This model is a proposal for a "High-performance Hybrid Motorcycle." Based on Yamaha's "Genesis" design ideal and the new "G.E.N.I.C.H." ideal reflecting the latest electronic control technologies, this model combines the lightweight, compact YZF-R6 600cc engine and a high output, high efficiency electric motor. It is designed to offer both the joy of handling of a motorcycle and the comfort and carrying capacity of a scooter. Features like the lightweight aluminum CF die-cast body with optimized rigidity balance, large diameter wheels and long wheelbase give this model running performance and handling similar to a 1,000cc class machine.
Furthermore, as Yamaha H.M.I. (Human Machine Interface) systems, this model adopts ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) features aimed at preventative safety functions and smart functions for increasing rider comfort"

MAXAM 3000
VS2V6885.JPG

Developing on the base of the popular urban tandem cruiser "MAXAM," this is Yamaha's proposal for a new type of big cruiser with the design concept of a "weekend leisure cruiser." Building on the "MAXAM's "low & long" body design, this model boats a completely new "pick-up" styling that includes focus on important things like storage space in its under-seat compartment. In addition to the big added stretch of overhang front and rear, touches like abundant use of chrome parts and a genuine leather seat bring a sense of true quality such as never seen before in a big scooter.
(The 3000 stands for the 3,000mm machine length)

2007- Tessarect

This is a hybrid 4-wheeled vehicle powered by a combination of a liquid-cooled V-twin gasoline engine and an electric motor.
It is also designed with a combination of a unique dual-scythe suspension that enables cornering with a lean (banking) despite the 4-wheel format and a dual arm-lock system that keeps the machine upright when at rest without a stand. It offers excellent performance and maneuverability with a machine width roughly equivalent to that of a 2-wheeler.

This is a parallel hybrid type motorcycle with a gasoline engine and an electric motor that function in parallel, with the electric motor kicking in during acceleration to assist the engine and switching over during cruising to perform a electricity generating function that re-charges the battery.
The engine-brake force created during deceleration is also used to generate electricity to charge the battery.
Yamaha's YIPU electronic drive unit is built into the rear hub to provide the electric power assist during acceleration and when wheeling the vehicle by hand, and it also provides a reverse function.
In a collaboration with Yamaha Corp. (music) this model also mounts a spetial audio system.

Taking the "Soul Beat V-twin Sports Model" MT-01 as its base, this concept model is designed to be "The Ultimate Quality Adult Hobby Bike" featuring special parts like a new muffler that expresses the unbeatable torque of the air-cooled V-twin engine and an LED headlight.

You can look at the concepts from all the manufacturers... Honda and Suzuki have a couple wild ones (find the Suzuki Stratosphere), but Yamaha has by far the coolest stuff and seems to be a lot more daring with style and design, at least on flight-of-fancy concepts. The more recent websites usually have an "english" button somewhere, but the older sites are all Japanese.

This looks like the 2 wheeled version of a Cadillac CTS.
1 word......FUGLY!

If you want a car...then just buy a car.

I kind of like the MT models. Looks like a small, fun hooligan bike. But yeah, the others are beyond ugly...you don't see stuff like that at American auto shows. Way "too Japanese".

I am loving this one. It does look like and off road bike in design to me a bit... but still. Love. It.
