|Skorpi660's 1989 Yamaha VMX1200
|Originally a 1989 model registered in the state of California
and imported into the UK in Oct 1992 with 1502 miles on the clock..
It now has 37500 miles on the clock & looking more than alittle used..
It has now had the following upgrades done:
Fitted with 1998 model 43mm Forks wiv Progressive fork springs..
New head bearings & rubber washer replaced with s/s steel..
Six pot front calipers with braided hoses..
XJR1300 Master Cylinder & lever..
Upgraded clutch plate & springs & new friction pads..
S/S head pipes with mini Marshal cans, I want to get them Black Chromed at some point.. :-)
Manual overide fan switch for those long traffic hold ups..
Vboost overide switch installed for added MPG when touring..
Twin Dominator headlights with DID conversion bulbs..
Homemade mini bug screen..
Dragstar wide handle bars..
Blue Spot four pot rear brake conversion & braided lines
with new master cylinder service kit..
Mini LED indicators with Bias Diodes fitted to retain 'push cancel operation'..
Stripped back & cleaned up wiring loom & fitted new connectors where needed..
Bodged up a large GS thou' rack for carrying hodz of camping equipement & will cut down, lower, reweld & 'paint' when I get the urge..
I also have a New Exactrep belly pan & Large Capital Mantaray GRP tank cover to fit when I get around to it..
I'm in the process of making up an alumiumin petrol tank to fit under tank cover for added milage between fill-ups..
And would like to smarten her up with a Deep Purple Cherry Flake Paint job & Satin black the engine & drive gear with a Tungston graphite grey frame, head stocks, forks & wheels.. Or possibly fit Divi 900 wheels ??
Oh yeah, I'm looking to get a pair of XJR1200/1300 Ohlin rear shocks, well at some point anyway.. :-P
But for now the weather is good & bikes were made primarily to ride & enjoy......... And paint'n'pretty stuff don't make it more reliable or practical, besides when ever I have something with a nice paint job I tend to drop it in a muddy field or just generally damage it in some way or other....
In 1976 I had a nearly new Candy Flake Metallic Purple Rayleigh Chopper wiv da red pin striped wheels & red decals, I was the envy of all the local kids This bike at only afew days old, I left lent up behind a Landrover up the farm .. My Dad's words were summin to 'Well son, that's the end of that'.. I Was back on the old rusty, tusty 1940's trade bike & now the centre of ridicule.... The tears still flow even now..
The first I heard of these mighty beasts was in a mag my dad had got from a USAF serviceman from the States late in 1984 & I was struck, Our local motorcycle shop got a VMAX in from the States to put on a Turntable in his showroom back in 1985 .. This was not for sale it clearly said, to which made it even more exotic for us Brits.. When they finally became available firstly via import they were sooo sooo sooo expensive,
still 30 years later & I finally got my hands on one.. Happy Dayz .. :-)
