    Clutch slave cylinder replacement

I have to say it does look more like part 23 but I will defer to the more knowledgeable folks on here confirm, post 13,442 in here shows what it looks like once removed (the seal came as part of my kit) https://www.vmaxforum.net/threads/what-did-you-do-to-your-vmax-today-part-2.8470/page-673...

    Clutch slave cylinder replacement

That looks about right, but whilst you are in there, replace the seal for the push rod. It's a bitch to get out - I wrote about how I did it with a photo of the home made extractor tool. Search the forum as I recall there are some useful tips. Copper crush washers can be reused by annealing...

    Right boot protector

I made a bracket from thin aluminium sheet, painted black, to cover the rear brake master mounting as it was damaging my right boot. It uses the same bolts. The photos say it all.

    Clutch slave cylinder replacement

The seal is the correct way round. firstly it looks very much like I am the first person to overhaul the clutch slave, I checked the service manual but the diagram is not great and lastly found a video of someone overhauling slave that when pausing the video, could just make out the direction...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Thanks for the late tip, I did not see any ball bearings. Only way it could come out was if push rod was magnetised. At quarter to 7 got the lever bled - a long day - and clutch is very firm. Let's see how it stays like that. During testing I almost had a heart attack as engine stalled...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

The most difficult task so far, removing the seal. Started off by using a bicycle spoke at various positions in the hole but noticed it bending (the bend should be 90 degree) and got worried it may break off inside. Took a piece of mild steel yo make a puller.... and it's out.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Push a piece of rubber hose over the push rod and out it comes no need to label ad hemispherical end engages in the slave. Now to pull out the seal and clean up .

    Clutch slave cylinder replacement

And for those who cannot get hold of replacement cylinder so are replacing the internals using a kit, just checking the seal is the correct way round? (as removed from cylinder)

Doesn't look too bad in there. And is this the push rod seal?

And funnel on action after loosening the reservoir lid. @FM feel free to add to the clutch slave sticky if you think any of this will help others. It's seems like a daunting task but so far has been easy. You need to have spare cover gasket too.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

An empty milk carton, a pair of scissors... To make a small funnel to catch fluid when draining the clutch. I don't have hose clamp or want to risk damaging a 25 year old rubber hose.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Yes those type, in stainless steel, are my preferred version but there are at least 5 different types, from the slotted types you mention, similar ones with solid bands (we call them jubilee clips), to spring loaded ones and those that are crimped. The type fitted by yamaha bear closest...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

A couple of tips when refitting. The aftermarket hose is slightly larger diameter so the original wire clamps are hard to move over the hose. So fit them in their final position and push the hose onto the tails, the clamps will expand. A tiny dab of petroleum jelly (vaseline) inside the hose...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

The culprit, perished hose, out of phocus foto but you can see umpteen cracks. Next task, attack the clutch slave...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

There's a smell of petrol (or gas if you are in the US) The braided hose from fuel pump to carbs is leaking. You can see it black and shiny, and if you look carefully there is a steam of fuel pouring out. Well pissed off as I replaced it recently, either last year or the year before
