    Another Carburetor Question

Well, I went through the carburetors. I took measurements and examined everything closely. I see no discernible difference between the carburetors other than the number stamped on the butterflies. I want to thank Danny for his input. It's just one of those things that bothered me once I saw it...

How to measure wet float levels

Maybe its just me and my proclivity towards laziness, but who really fusses with this? Theoretically, one could be pulling the carburetors out several times and separating the halves to get a spot-on float level. This is where I give Honda credit: They only offer a dry setting.

    Another Carburetor Question

I just entered the part number for a number one carburetor for a 1986 V-Max. The part number is: 1FK-14901-02-00. I put that number into the part number search and came up with the following models (remember this is a 1986 model): http://partsfish.com/oemparts/c/yamaha_motorcycle/parts It...

    Another Carburetor Question

I was looking on http://partsfish.com and in the service manual. According to the supplementary service manual for the 1993 V-Max, the carb size is 35 mm, but other models show 34 mm. Strange thing is, Parts Fish shows one part number as working for almost all model years. I measured 34 mm...

    Another Carburetor Question

I was just searching the forums and came across the following with no answer (at least publicly): http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=10576 It seems as though it may be a California carburetor. I'll measure again, but I'm pretty sure it's a 34mm. I'll measure the thickness of the...

    Float Seat Installation

Done. I used a small C-clamp and spacer that I had ground down on one side to clear the float pin , as well as a bolt that fit the on top of float seat where the screen or bonnet sits. It took a little finagling to hold everything in place while positioning the clamp, but everything eventually...

    Another Carburetor Question

Okay, so I installed my float needle and seat. While I had everything apart, I decided to clean the the carburetors. Then I noticed something: One of the carburetor throttle butterflies is stamped with the number "130". The remaining butterflies are stamped with the number "125" . I went...

What about something like Simichrome? Too abrasive, you think?

    Float Seat Installation

I'm still waiting for my parts (the plug and o-ring). I was looking at the needle itself with a magnifying glass, and it does has some noticeable wear. I think replacing the needle and cleaning the old seat would have sufficed. Hopefully, I didn't bite off more than I can chew with this project...

    Float Seat Installation

Much obliged. I was thinking something along the same lines. I just hope I can get the screen bonnet to sit on once the seat is in place. I do have an additional question regarding the top plug or welch plug: It's staked in. I assume that gently filing off the old peens around the outside of...

    Float Seat Installation

Well, I had a leaking number three carburetor. I bought the float needle and seat. I removed the float seat per the instructions found here: http://www.vmaxforum.net/showpost.php?p=209252&postcount=6. I went to install the new float seat and discovered it's gonna need some force to install...

Lehigh Valley person to work on Cam chain?

You're not far from me. I'm in Allentown. Have you had the carburetor synchronization checked? I've heard engines make strange sounds when the carbs are out of balance.

    Kerker 4-1 help?

Sean, for some reason I was under the impression that it's common practice to increase the main jets with the stock needles, and to decrease the main jets with a Stage 1 or 7 jet kit. I'm really interested in this because my brother is running a kerker 4-into-1 that was was way over-jetted (if I...

    Kerker 4-1 help?

Stage 1 jet kits don't work well with the V-Max. Put the jetting back to stock, except for going up one or two sizes on the main jet. Start there and see how it runs. If you're running a K&N filter, or modified the air box in any way, you may have to address any or all of the following depending...
