Are you getting good spark ? I had same issue with left front plug getting wet , coughing , spitting and backfiring . I did the c.o.p conversion , removed the old coils and problem went away . Figure it was a bad coil ......after pissing a whole summer away thinking it was a carb issue ...

Yes the fronts do cross over , the rear do not

Maybe you have them on the wrong cylinders ?

easy upgrade to COPS on my 85 and after you remove the 4 OEM coils , there is lots of extra space by the battery box and up front by the CDI unit , not to mention 4 coils and wires probably weigh 10 lbs at least .....your original problem could be from a cracked coil !! mine was Cujo51

Okay I am waving the white flag I have tried everything to solve this problem The intial problem , back in the spring, was driving home from work I had no power off the line in first gear and the only way to run was a little choke and at 4k rpm it will just cough and sputter and never get past...

Yes Jim it was a Dynojet Stage 1 kit I just emailed Sean now for the Stage 7 If I'm taking it apart anyways I might as well install it , instead of doing it twice

last night I installed the jet needles with the clip at the closest point to the tapered point . Resynched carbs and went for a ride Great off the line , no bogging down , but now no power at 3500 rpm and up Pulled a plug and the tip is white and bike seems to be running hotter than normal...

Main jets are stock ....Dales kit was 4 very small brass rings ...I didnt install but it wasnt much for the money ...Came with K&N filter included for 100 bucks

yes float levels are perfect ...checked with the tube Wow remove the carbs again lol I was hoping just to pull the diaphragms and adjust the needle but oh well Thanks

also installed new fuel filter , dumped and cleaned the tank and filled with fresh fuel drained the bowls a few times yesterday and it was super clean

The stock jets have 5EZ44 etched on the side ??????????????? Dont know what else to tell you The bike ran great up to a month or so ago , with Dales stage 1 kit , then i had a float stick and fill a cylinder with gas and got into the oil then pulled the carbs apart ...very dirty , cleaned them...
