Horrid noise on occasional start up

I couple of notes from my experience with this. Used a good automotive harmonic balancer puller, no cheapo's. I broke the first one. Apply pressure with the puller and heat the hub around the shaft, remember it is tapered and when it lets go be ready to catch. Also don't just tighten the 3...

    Timing intake, exhaust cams

Just my 2 cents but I think most people overlook this as a source of more or less power. It seems to me that the timing chains stretch with use and cam timing is influenced. If setting valve lash I would also check the cam phasing.

    Spark plugs

It doesn't matter whoes plug you use for better performance "indexing" and "side gapping" will actually do something noticable. http://www.instructables.com/id/Save-Gas-And-Incerase-Horsepower-By-Side-Gapping-S/ http://corp.advanceautoparts.com/english/youcan/asp/pht/pht20001001sp.asp

    carb mods

I wanted to see how far I could get without buying any kits, just using what is already there. '93 vmax / drilled stock pipes and shimmed airbox horn. Here are my carb mods through trial and error here in Michigan: shimmed diaphragm needles, sync'd carbs and lastly I cut (4) coils off each...

Bargain hunter looking for a solution

My newly acquired 1985 max has road rash on the rightside can that is pretty bad. Since I am a little strapped for cash I was considering looking for another stock muffler that is wrecked on the left side for cheap. I can then cut the two in half and splice the good parts together with my mig...

    1985 w/cracked chrome on forks

I have inherited a 1985 Vmax from my cousin which needs work, some cosmetic and some mechanical. My first major issue is what to do with the front end. Prior to my owning this the bike the forks were straightened but I see one of the tubes has radial cracks in the chrome plating. My cheapest...

    Furbur or not Furbur?

All I can say is my death wobble is gone after my version of a Furb-Fix. It took some experimenting to get the preload right but in the end she is smooth. On a good road you can run one-handed up over 125mph without the slightest shake or wobble. The only time she starts waggin' is with rider...

The OIL thread. All oil related questions here.

I tried synthetic once and noticed my temperature gauge read cooler, interesting. Must be the less friction thing. Then I noticed, yes indeed I could slip the clutch. Now I have the "Double-D" with Synth. and do problems.

    Hesa Fire Headlight

Has anyone looked at the Hesa Fire Headlight for the Vmax? It is an over/under stacked light available with chrome or black housing. I like the looks of it on the screen but have never seen it on a bike.
