    Starter problem

I have a new problem with my max. When I hit the starter switch the starter doesn't engage right away. Someone told me it could be the battery though when I connect a small charger it doesn't help. Is the starter a common problem? My bike is an 04 with 18k miles on it.

    Starter problem?

I have an 04 that has developed a nasty grinding noise when I hit the starter button, as if it had worn teeth on the starter gear. I know it's not the battery because I put a 100 amp charger on the battery and it still made the grinding noise. Has anyone else had this problem? Was it the starter?

    Saddlebag brackets

I am planning a bike trip and decided to take my Max. The problem is I have a pair of leather saddlebags but don't have a set of those steel saddlebag support brackets. Is there such a thing for the Vmax?

    Handling

I ride my Max a lot, 60 miles a day to and from work. At speeds over 85 it's unstable, and as speed increases it gets worse. Over 115 and I feel suicidal riding it so I keep it under 85. I've heard that lowering the bike on the front forks and radials help, when I need a tire I'll check it...

    Mr. Max has to go

If the Max could handle the speeds of the Bird, I never would have bought the bird. The Max is a MUCH more comfortable ride, acceleration is while not as fast as the bird, respectable enough to keep the sporties from snickering. Also I like different bikes, both the bird and Max fill that...

    Mr. Max has to go

Unfortunately I am needing to sell my 2004 Vmax with 16,600 miles on it. He has a windshield, was lowered a bit by the previous owner, has forward located pegs ( a couple of inches) a boost switch, and fan switch. Everything works, and he has not been ridden hard. I'm looking at $4300 which...

SAFELY give your handlebars a small L to R wiggle at highway speed - what happens?

Re: SAFELY give your handlebars a small L to R wiggle at highway speed - what happens Mine is an 04, and it has had a wobble since I bought it at 12k miles. Nothing serious, but it's there if I induce it like you suggested. I first noticed it doing a steering correction to miss a tire...

    low rpm surging?

Mine does the same thing at idle in neutral, but I rarely run it in gear that slow so I can't say about your revs. I bought mine with 12k miles on it, everyone who hears it says it has had the cams replaced. The unfortunate thing about being the second owner is you do not know what's inside.

    2011 Max design

I got to thinking about a post 2009 Max and wondered if the first gen had potential for an overhaul. What would YOU guys do to bring the Max into this century if the 09 limited ed were gone next year and thereafter. Me: 1. Much better lighting all around, y'know, modern headlights and signals...

    Max noise

I ride my Max about 300 miles per week, and ONCE a day it makes a VERY odd sound. On accelerating rather gently, I hear a low Poof sound. Not a backfire, it sounds like you filled a plastic baggie with air, sealed it placed a VERY little pressure on it, and slit it with a razor. I hear it...

    diagnose please :) Specific sound..

You're right, I "MEANT " to say hitting the starter button, and the bike didn't start and remains off. Oh, and the sound is like a small hammer hitting something solid.

    diagnose please :) Specific sound..

I was told that a weak battery could cause the starter to "KNOCK" like that when you turn the key. Mine does the same thing if I leave it a few days without starting it. I guess to prove it I need to try a new battery.

Horse power with or without Vboost question?

Those numbers reported earlier sound very reasonable but when asked about the horsepower of my bike sometimes I answer "More than I need, as much as I want, and sometimes I use EVERY single one of them"

    '09 B-King vs '09 Vmax

I now ride my 04 max with a bunch of sporties, and like you I can't tell one from the other... yes, they're all very fast but I keep up and have no shame. Oh well, to each their own. :-) It would be cool if there were a group of Max owners that got together in South Florida. Wouldn't that be a...

    Vmax's in Boston area...

Same here in South Florida Cycle trader has 5 listings in 75 miles from here and Craig's list has 5 in a smaller radius. Maybe they are trying to sell for an upgrade to the second gen? A local dealer here had an 04 on the lot that they took in on trade for an 09.
