    Voltmeter for 1st Gen Vmax

Thanks, should have searched with voltmeter as you did, but I’m happy. I love my Vmax, but not the small tank. Many years ago, almost bought the Venture Royale, but just as I was ready, they stopped making. It’s a great bike, but back then wanted to buy new. Jeff

Installing progressive springs in 1989 Vmax

Steve L, Thanks for prompt response. I appreciate. Fresh means forks rebuilt and checked about 2k ago, and on stand, front wheel hanging, I feel no movement. I’d hate to think fork bushings deteriorated after only 2k. I’d taken forks in, picked up, reinstalled myself, added oil per manual. If...

    Voltmeter for 1st Gen Vmax

Thanks Bill. I have one of those for years also, like you on handlebar, but hooked into headlights. It read one green bar. I decided to go voltmeter, I like the numbers. I couldn’t find a good connect back then, whether it existed or not. While I’m done, and it works great, could you tell me...

Installing progressive springs in 1989 Vmax

1989 Vmax has stock front springs, and forks were rebuilt a couple thousand miles ago, fine. I weigh 240 lbs. while bike rides pretty good, I’d like to consider installing progressive springs, don’t know whose to buy. More important, forks are fresh, so I was hoping to replace springs without...

    Voltmeter for 1st Gen Vmax

I’m about to wire in an upgrade rectifier/regulator(R/R) in my 1989 Vmax. My stators fine,(checked), but I’ve been left a couple times on the street, with dead battery, dead R/R. I’d very recently wired a voltmeter into headlights, mounted on handlebar bracket, but found it reads 0.5-0.8...

    Regulator/Rectifier Shindinguen FH001 vs Electrosport ESR279

OK. I sent a text to Jack of ROADSTERCYCLE.com, and he corrected several of my misconceptions. He’s been selling Shindengen kits for years, (11000+ of FH020AA). He corrected me as follows: ( I’d love to paste his email to me, but need to ask permission). 1. FH020AA has a peak current of 50...

    Regulator/Rectifier Shindinguen FH001 vs Electrosport ESR279

Pardon Bill, you’re of course right. It was “Jack” who owns ROADSTERCYCLE.com that said the SH 775 has a 9000 rpm limit. Same as you, I never get to 9000 rpm, so not of any concern. The FH0020 is about $50 less than th SH 775. Im going to think a little bit more about shunt vs series R/R, and...

    Regulator/Rectifier Shindinguen FH001 vs Electrosport ESR279

Ok. I’ve been looking around, here’s what I found, and thank you Shaun, I’ll take a look at the 96-07 regulator. 1. I believe my 1989 VMAX is rated at 9500 rpm max. 2. Charging system rated at 25 amps. 3. The Shindengen SH775 that Bill Seward installed, can do 50 amp peak, 30 amp continuous...

    Regulator/Rectifier Shindinguen FH001 vs Electrosport ESR279

Thanks, I looked at the SH 775. Where did you get the female connectors to attach the three stator wires, and the red and black +/- wires to the regulator? Did you just use single readily available flat female connectors, or were you able to find a couple 3 way connectors? Thanks, Jeff

    Regulator/Rectifier Shindinguen FH001 vs Electrosport ESR279

Ive seen the thread on putting a Shindinguen FH001 voltage/regulator in the VMAX (1st gen). Re that thread, I have a regular air box, so would have to be creative with mounting. Has anyone tried Electrosports ESR 279? It’s the same as the stock, but says it runs much cooler, with much more...

    Handlebar mount bracket bolts access

Thanks, got it. I have a hardened needle tool, and got it out. Have installed voltmeter. I’ve done a lot of work on my bike, it’s fine, love it. However, the charging system has never been what I call great. At least now, with voltmeter, I’ll be better able to keep an eye on it.

    Handlebar mount bracket bolts access

I have a 1989 V Max. The bracket that holds the handlebars appears to have 4 attachment bolts, and each appears to be covered with a chromed rounded (likely plastic) silver button. I want to remove one button, remove the bolt, put in an extended bolt with collar spacer, so as to attach a...
