    Selling my project

I realize I'm breaking an unwritten rule by bumping a thread this old... but now that warmer weather is starting to pop up here and there, it's time to get serious about getting this gone. Anyone in or around the Upstate SC area looking for a mostly rebuilt engine?

    Selling my project

Correct, we did the HD oiler, but not the ARP studs.

    Selling my project

It's certainly not a "great great finish", but it's more than passable from a distance of 5 feet or more. Once you get close up, you'll see places where the paint has kind of an orange peel effect in some areas, or a spot where the buffing wheel rubbed the paint while trying to polish up some of...

    Selling my project

Mostly what I'm wanting is three-fold... 1. I want enough out of it to use as a down-payment on a new bike (yet to be determined). 2. I want to not have to ship the engine and frame if at all possible. 3. I want it out of my living room. :) I'll try to get some pictures together this evening.

    Selling my project

I started earlier this year working on rebuilding a bike that was run into a lake... engine is from an '88 and has been completely rebuilt, using Damon's video and parts from Sean. All new bearings and gaskets everywhere, stainless bolts, repainted with high-gloss/high-heat paint. Frame is a '98...

    Low oil sensor wiring

Well, this is what mine looks like...

    Low oil sensor wiring

But the wire is actually embedded into the sensor at that end, rather than attaching to it via something like a post or connector?

    Low oil sensor wiring

No pic right this second (I'm at work), but this is definitely just a small brass screw. I'm talking small like something you'd see holding the decorative hasp on like a jewelry box. Maybe the original wire broke off, and this was just a kludge to keep contact? I'll post a picture tonight when I...

    Low oil sensor wiring

Got the oil pan back on last night, and the next step on the video was to reinstall the low oil sensor. On mine, there's no wire coming out of the sensor, but instead there's a screw in the opening, and kind of a 45 degree angle coming out of the hole. Is the wire supposed to be embedded, or is...

Oval o-ring on Morely's HD Oiler

OK, I'm at a loss as to where this oval O-ring goes when installing the HD Oiler cure. Can someone give me a picture or a part number for the "elbow assembly" that it goes on?

    Harley front end,stem dimensions

What about axle size on the Ultima forks? Can you still use the stock wheels? Do you lose the speedo?

    Swap '88 forks for newer?

If I've read correctly, I can replace the standard '88 forks with something post-'92 if I replace both triples and the calipers as well, yes? Will the standard wheel from an '88 still work? (Digital speedo, so the speedo drive isn't an issue)

    How many shims?

I'm to the point in my engine rebuild where it's time to put the output shaft into the back of the engine block. Since this bike was underwater, the original shims rusted completely together, and I have no way of knowing how many or what size the originals were. My local shop doesn't stock these...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Started the rebuild from scratch, got the first half of the lower block assembled... shift drum, transmission, etc. Crank and balancer shaft will go in tonight, on top of new bearings. I've got a broken bolt in the upper half that I need to spot anneal so that I can drill into it.

    Cleaning bearings

Is it safe to assume that any non-sealed bearing, such as the ones on the ends of the transmission shafts, would be safe to immerse in mineral spirits? I can only assume that since they're not packed with grease, and are constantly being flooded with the engine oil, that a quick dip in the...
