New C/W came yesterday with a short V-Max article and interview with the chief of design. No performance data of ride test yet. The designer said the speed limiter was for safety. They feel that an unfaired bike should be kept under 140mph.
Less than a current model sport bike. If my Aprilia Tuono tipped over in the driveway it would cost an easy $5k in just carbon fiber replacement. Frame sliders are your friend.
Cycle World predicts a low 10 possibly a high 9. They think the neutered top speed is going to hurt the 1/4 time. I agree. By pass the speed limiter and a mid to low 9 should be within grasp.
I would be more than happy with 32mpg. My V-Twin 1000cc 130whp Aprilia only gets 25-27mpg if I ride half way reasonable. Fuel light is on at 100 miles consistantly. At about 115 miles you are walking. It is fuel injected.
Same goes for my 550cc Supermoto, about 25 mpg. That one I only get...
If it's an electronic govenor they are easily over come with the addition of a power commander or in some cases a simple wire clip. The first generation ZX-12 were govenored at the magic 186 mph. There was a single wire going to the ECU if clipped took out the govenor. There will be ways...
Wow, the stock exhaust note sucks! Choked down so bad it almost sounds like an I-4. I knew it wouldn't be real loud but they at least could have let a little rumble through. Aftermarket should do well here.
Not here. My wife was shocked and a little bummed that I haven't ordered it yet. She is glad to see something she can ride on the back of. My other two bikes are strictly solo.
Exactly my thoughts. Once the hype is gone prices will come down. Unfortunately that usually signals the beginning of the end. I would love to add one to my stable but at $18k it won't happen this year. $18k opens the door to some very exoctic machines. Or a ZX14/Busa turbo and $$ left for...
My bet is after the initial "rush" to buy Star/Yamaha will be discounting to move them. My 2004 Aprilia was a 1 of 200 made that retailed for just under $20k. I bought mine new in 2005 for under $15k. Good things come to those that wait.
Like most of you, I have been waiting a long time for this bike. Mixed feelings. There is a lot to like but plenty I could do without. For now I will join the wait and see crowd. $18k is pretty crazy money but today's exchange rate sucks bad.
