2017 VMAX OFF TO THE TRACK (NOT STRIP)

I get what you are saying about liking the handling of your bike. Oddly, I am totally content with the handling of my Gen1. I cut my teeth on the street back in the 80's, and those bikes fit my riding style, I suppose. Despite the fact I've had a ton of modern sportbikes.

I have a number of things to do before it can be ridden. I also haven't really addressed my fuel tank woes, just swapping the spare in. I did solve the gas cap problem, though: It may seem inconvenient carrying a roll of aluminized duct tape everywhere you ride, but you never have to worry...

Just seeing that. We'll have to take our chances...this isn't the loudest one in the garage. Just the best sounding. :D

I appreciate the suggestion. I actually managed to get it running right about the time of your post. I recharged the battery (the bike had charging issues before I parked it) and just let it sit for 20 minutes. No starter fluid. I don't know why for sure, but letting them sit and ponder their...

Unhooked each coil (COP mod) one by one. Grounded to frame, each plug does spark. Each plug was a little wet. Still no start.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, well that is overstating things. But, I went back to the garage a while later...and now the fuel pump works every time. The carbs are mounted, plugs installed, all the stuff. It won't start. Not even with starter fluid. I guess I need to check for spark...

I'm kinda baffled here. I installed the spare tank and fuel, and some new lines, but I have hit an impasse. The fuel pump is back to not running. I checked the voltage at the male end of the pump electrical connection, and it is only around 10.5v when the bike is switched on. The new Odyssey...

Well, I can't make out any screws on the underside of the cap. I do see gunk/corrosion/sludge...I guess that is what it is. There was sludge in the bottom of the tank that covered the hole when I removed the drain bolt.

Man, I can't imagine trying to hustle that tank around the track! That is no offense, it is just a huge bike. But I think we have all seen that guy railing his Goldwing through Deals Gap...so, with great skill it must be possible. Good luck and have fun! Oh, and since the date has passed...do...

    895 mi on 2013 bike??

Easily could be that mileage. I bought my 1989 V-Max in 2013...and it only had 2700 miles on it, from the original owner.

    First Vmax/First Bike

Can you imagine, back in 1985, someone saying they got a V-Max as a first bike? That would have sounded insane! :D

Actually I am not too familiar with the color combinations. I think the '88 is similar? I am not really enamored of it compared to the purple '85. That is my favorite. I have parts to switch this one over to a different scheme. But it is so original I have wondered whether I should get a second...

That bike/frame is an old project. It's a ZX-14 with a bored/stroked 1534cc street/race motor. Cams, porting, 15:1 compression..240 wheel setup, extended arm...etc. It was going to be set up for E85 fuel, for street use. Not sure what I'm going to do with that one at this point. We kind of...

Ok, the garage took more work than I thought. But it was worth it, and I can get some stuff done, now. Before: After: The parts I ordered came from Ronayers. There wasn't any delay, either. Anyway, I went ahead and got the fuel tank out of there today. It took me maybe 1.5 hours to remove...

OEM parts for our discontinued bikes, get em while you can!!!

Just an update, I ordered some parts from Ronayers, and they arrived in a timely fashion. These same parts are all listed as backordered on Bikebandit. So, maybe it isn't such a issue as suspected.

Been busy working in the garage, but no time to work on the bike. Hopefully by the weekend! I did get the Odyssey battery (odd note, there was zero padding for this battery...literally the box was exactly the size of the battery...how do they not crack in shipping??), but I am not messing with...

OEM parts for our discontinued bikes, get em while you can!!!

When I look on Bikebandit, pretty much every Gen1 V-max part for the fuel system is listed as backordered. This is all the way down to clips and screws, including all parts for carbs, fuel tank, airbox, etc.. I highly doubt this is accurate, as certainly some of the nuts, bolts, screws and...

Thanks for the input, guys. I really appreciate it. So, first, I have some good news on the fuel pump issue: it works! I remembered yesterday that I had come across this while cleaning up the garage: I think I have had this thing for close to 20 years? I bought it off of eBay when I had a...

So, to start, I charged up a battery and turned on the ignition, to see what would happen. 1) V-Boost cycles lazy, or not at all. Lubricated cable, much improved. 2) Removed plugs, and starter does turn over motor. So nothing is seized up, it seems. 3) Fuel pump does not run. Ok, so on the...
