Changed Stater and Now Weird Noise on Start Up

Agreed.. ask me how I know. Cost me a new battery I didn't need but "thought" I did.... slow cranking due to what MaxMidnight said.

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Here's a short-n-sweet vid showing how the sail switch works. From a dead stop to 30 to dead stop. Sorry so shaky, my son was not steady :-) Jim

Due to the overwhelming number of requests I received, I've added these photos. Please stop asking me to take your money, I'm not making them for anyone else. Freshened up Version 3 viewed from outside Version 3 viewed from inside Up close & personal Vmax's bedroom...living the good...

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Well, I was reluctant to drop the $58 on that switch plus the cost of 170* thermostat mentioned by member Dorney although that is a very clean/smart solution. For anyone interested, I decided to go with the low pressure (easy to actuate) micro switch I mentioned earlier. I made a sail switch to...

    " gel battery "

I went through 2 of the PC680's in 5 years. Dunno why, but I'll not buy another. I'm using a AGM made elsewhere right now.... hope it lasts.

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

I asked the seller of the switch forum member Dorney linked and here's what he said for those interested. "This fan switch turns on at 95° C and turns off at 90° C." which equates to 194* F and 203* F

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

So.... in trying to understand the steps you took, you changed the thermostat and the fan switch?? I gathered from your post so far that you only changed the fan switch yet in this post you say you need to change both to get the right results. Please clarify or send a link to your post from...

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Thanks...had no idea that existed even after reading many forum threads. Pricey but if it solves a problem, worth it.

Oh, I missed that, my apologies. Please provide a link or a part number? Thank you.

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Thanks... I understood you to have a OEM fan sensor. I did too but it seemed to migrate to higher sending trip point with age. There's no guarantee that if I bought OEM switch, my bike would behave like yours. You're also in PA vs FL fwiw. I think my plan will suit/meet my objective of...

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Yours sounds ideal. My fan was coming on at 2:00ish and also only came on while sitting still too long, but I don't like it that crispy. It used to come on when it got to the dot @ 3:00. But now with new fan sensor, it's on even at 3:15. When I come to a stop it's still on. Thanks for your reply.

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Thermostat opens 180*, fan sending switch closes at 180* so fan runs most of the time. I want the fan to run and keep engine cooler than stock configuration BUT the fan need not run while bike is moving through the air (which is approx. 80% of the ride time). So, I want to shut off fan when...

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

I think I'm going to use this integrated in/on/near my fan shroud to sense air flow while moving say 15mph and greater. It operates with a half ounce of force and I plan to make a "pressure plate" to actuate the plunger that is of a "light pressure" requirement. This is a N.O. or N.C. switch...

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

True, but if I can devise a RPM switch, say 2k or above to trip/shut off fan, I'd be in business. Thank you.

That's the same eBay seller I bought from. Glad it worked out for you, and thanks for the reply. Jim

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

Sorry... sensor I bought for $8.52 shipped, appears to be USED. Works/closes at 180* but is was listed as NEW VINTAGE\, not VINTAGE. So, my apologies for the "lead".

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

No.... just some prefer a sending unit that will kick on fan sooner at lower temp. The go to sender was the Borg Warner but that find can be elusive so the second choice is the Standard Motor Products which I listed.

    Water Temp Sensor Mod

If you guys were ever going to buy the Borg Warner TFS-545 but couldn't find one, here's a Standard Motor Products TS148 instead (near equiv.) (maybe better temp range wise), this guy in link below has 2 left at $9 shipped. No box and looks like no o-ring. That's like $30 off not counting...

    Charge Range

Very nice summary, thank you kindly. I did not check it but I need to. It sounds like R/R charges (outputs) based on load & RPM and not the state of charge at the battery (like a car does). That's what I needed to know. I can be going 60 MPH and look down and see the volts at 12.7 and minutes...
