Best Way to Store "Recently Used" Carbs

Thanks Conman - pretty intense... By the way, I own 2 Maxims and there isn't a screw or bolt I haven't touch on either of them. My Vmax, on the hand, is a lot more intimidating and complex for me but I hope to get over that soon. Vive la Difference!

Best Way to Store "Recently Used" Carbs

I was recently given a set of carbs from a Vmax buddy who decided to forgo a project he was working on (long story). I've been having issues with my current carbs so this was greatly appreciated. In any event, I will not be getting around to installing them for at least another 4 months or so...

    Carb Compatibility Question

I have a 92 bike and a set of spare carbs off of an 88. I was thinking of rebuilding the spare set to reduce down time and then just swapping the fresh set on when I was done. Is it safe to assume that these two years (i.e., 88 and 92) are identical? I thought all the carbs from this...

What are the Symptoms of a Gunked-Up Fuel System?

I put some Seafoam in the tank and tried the "Pee Shooter" technique and my Max seems to be coming around. That is certainly great news! Now I can get some end of season riding in not to mention saving some $$$$$... Thanks to all for the help! Cheers!

    3badbirds missing

The reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated! I be back - just a little bit older and a little but slower! Can't keep an old VMaxer down!

What are the Symptoms of a Gunked-Up Fuel System?

I hear ya! If it was Spring time I would have "welcomed" the opportunity to get to know my Max better by diving into the carbs. I just know my time with her for what's left of the season is going to be very limited and wanted to spend it riding her, not fixing her (sounds like a typical...

What are the Symptoms of a Gunked-Up Fuel System?

Thanks, I'll give it a try... I'm just surprised it went all winter without a problem and then on its next tank of gas (and two month's inactivity) it acts up. I'm not that familiar with my Max (yet) but have done lots of wrenching on my muscle cars. I occasionally just shoot some Deep...

What are the Symptoms of a Gunked-Up Fuel System?

My Vmax spent the entire winter in my Mother's garage. Despite the best of intentions to start her during her hibernation - I never once got to it. As such, I was pleasantly surprised when she fired right up this past Spring and ran like a top. To reward such good behavior, I washed her down and...

Can Anyone Recommend a Decent Bike Cover?

My Max will probably be spending some time in the open carport this season. Can anyone recommend a halfway decent cover that I can easily get on and off without scratching up my ride? I took a look on the Bag and there seems to be hundreds of them all looking pretty much the same but selling...

    Wrecked!

What's involved when you "kick the road"? Are you talking about a few quick stabs with your heels to try and pop your bike back up again? I'd be interested in any details you can provide. I wouldn't want to do something stupid and end up with a scratched bike AND a broken leg..:bang head...

The first ride on my new bike

Hmmmmmmmm... Good point! Maybe I better check my garage and make sure my Sabre is still there.. :biglaugh:

Any Tips For Trailering My Vmax Home??

I finally got my Max home safe and sound. Thanks to all for their help and suggestions. A key point seems to be to make sure the wheels themselves are secure to keep them from kicking out. The special tether I got to secure the grips also worked well and was money well spent....

Might be the next vmax owner....

Don't mean to trash anyone, but any salesmen that recommends a VMax as your first bike can't have your best interest in mind... There are much better choices for a first bike, most of which have already been posted here... No substitute for experience... Just my 2 cents...

The first ride on my new bike

Hey Ken! Congrats on the new bike! I recently picked up my first VMax also but still have to get it registered and insured. Strangely enough, I also have a '85 Honda Sabre sitting in my garage (although I haven't ridden her in a few years). It's still a cool bike... I can't wait to hit...

    1985 great condition, have question

Back when I was bike shopping I looked at a bunch of early Vmax, primarily 85s. I ended up giving up on these earlier ones because they all had bad second gears. I checked with a few dealerships and bike shops and they said this was a very common problem back then. Unfortunately, its an...

Any Tips For Trailering My Vmax Home??

I took Tim's advice and went to my local bike shop to get some "special" straps to tie down my Max. They showed me something relatively new on the market that's specially made to secure larger street bikes on trailers. It's kind of hard to explain, but its a single wrap that attaches to either...

Any Tips For Trailering My Vmax Home??

I recently purchased a 92 Vmax. I still have to get her home and rather than dealing with the weather (we are in the middle of an ice storm right now) during a two hour trip on a new bike, I decided to rent / use an enclosed trailer. I have a truck and there is a rental place close by loaded...

Help Me Get Up to Speed On My New Vmax

Thanks for your well wishes! I'm hoping to get at least a season out of my new toy before I have to do anything serious. I looked her over pretty good and only found a slight oil leak from the valve cover. I'm thinking I may just have to tighten a few bolts to fix this. Hopefully all the...

Help Me Get Up to Speed On My New Vmax

After shopping around for a few years, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased my first Vmax this past weekend. Its a 92 that looks to be in great shape. Now that I finally have my bike, I want to learn more about its mechanics - I like to do my own wrenching. I'm use to using a model / year...

Newbie Question About Purchasing an 85 VMax

Thanks for all the info! The guy is asking $1,500 for the bike with 17,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time getting in touch with him to set up a test ride....
