A normal cylinder head temp is usaually 300-400 degrees measured from a thermocouple ring under the spark plug, so if you were aiming close to the plugs...

    I learned a trick about them booties. Mine were hard and deformed and not sealing well. I heated them with a heatgun and snapped the airbox in place easily then tightened the clamps. Now it plugs back in easily when it's been removed.

    I bought one of the 25 or so dollar Ebay pumps that has the end plate held on with screws, for my 85 Vmax. I used the original mounting bracket and end plate on the new pump. Fits and works perfect, same as factory with the plumbing and mount.

    Have you checked the flow of the fuel pipe from the tank? I had similar issue with my Max and the fuel pipe was clogged at it's base, inside the tank. Try blowing back thru it by mouth, with the cap off and the gas should bubble easily. I used a piece of bicycle brake cable like a roto-rooter...

    Chest mount works best for minimum wind noise. My favorite thing is the control app for my android phone. Clamped in a handlebar mount, lets me monitor the view and control the camera on the fly.

    if the area is flat enough, one of the 1" steel snap plugs at the hdw. for electrical boxes might work along with some exhaust sealer or hi-temp silicone.
