there are 2 of these one on each side of the bike in the V of the cylinders. I seem to have a small drip of oil from the one on the left side of the bike. I assume its a gasket issue but I can not find the parts on the Yamaha parts specs.

this is what happens with the old 2-brush starter, at the end of its life it fails, first sign its going out is the hot start issue!

Has the starter been upgraded. the Gen-1 came with a two-brush starter, there is now available a 4-brush started. On my 86 the first sign that the original starter was going out was when the bike was hot. stop for gas and then when restarting the bike, the starter would work but very slowly and...

Also need to check your weep hole, if the coolant is coming from your weep hole time to rebuild your water pump, easy fix!

One more question, as I see there is an oil seal in the water pump do I need to drain the oil out before the rebuild is started? Also, should I apply a gasket sealer to the main gasket, or apply dry?
