    GEN 1 Exhaust Question - Supertrapp Slip-Ons

Can anybody tell me if the carbs need to be adjusted or re-jetted if a pair of Supertrapp slip-ons are swapped for the original stock mufflers? Thanks for any help.

    1st Gen Exhaust Question

I have done some more research on the gaskets used by Yamaha between the mufflers and the header pipes. After looking at numerous Yamaha parts diagrams, I have come up with the following: It appears that from 1985 thru 1993, Yamaha used copper "Silencer Gaskets", part number: 36Y-14755-00-00...

    1st Gen Exhaust Question

I have done a little more research, and it appears that Yamaha used copper gaskets in the early V-Max's and then switched to the current semi-solid gray gaskets. Does anybody know when they switched materials and why they changed? Thank you.

    1st Gen Exhaust Question

Another question or two. I have 2 sets of original muffler assemblies. One set has a copper insert gasket in each of the pipes. The end cap is chrome and this is the set I would like to use. The other set has the semi-solid flexible gray gaskets in each pipe. The end cap on this set is...

    1st Gen Exhaust Question

I am working on a 1985 that has Super-Trap slip-on mufflers. They easily popped off. I want to re-install the original muffler system. I picked up 4 new exhaust gaskets. They are #43 on the Yamaha exhaust schematic. They are semi-solid and are some type of gray material. It looks like all...

    1985 Yamaha V-Max parts

I am looking for the following nice parts. They may have used the same color parts for a number of years(?). 1. The "Silver" colored plastic housing that the taillight mounts to. 2. The "Silver" colored plastic housing that the reflector mounts to at the rear of the seat. Thank you.

    GEN 1 Exhaust Questions

Did any of the Gen 1 models with the chrome mufflers come with a stock, black end cap instead of a chrome end cap? Secondly, is it true that the 1985 exhaust did not meet EPA noise requirements because the muffler outlet pipes were "1 mm" to big? Thank you.

    GEN 1 Aluminum Scoop Question

Thanks for the responses. But didn't some years (1985-86 and more?) have a bare finished aluminum with possibly only clearcoat?

    GEN 1 Aluminum Scoop Question

I came across a used set of bare aluminum scoops. They have some type of irregular streaking in the aluminum. This streaking cannot/will not polish out. Has anybody else ever come across this problem in their scoops? I can't believe that these scoops would have been fitted on a new bike...

    GEN 1 Oil Pressure Gauge

Back in 1987, I bought a new 1985 Yamaha V-Max. As I recall, I purchased an oil pressure gauge that mounted on the lower right side of the motor(?). I thought I bought it from Dale Walker's Holeshot Performance. I checked with him but he said he cannot remember that far back. Does anyone...
