    EFI conversion on a Gen-1

Pretty sure you will see more mpg, more top end power, better low end, and maybe even more mid range torque. Well done so far.

    Question about gearbox rumble /rattle

So what was worn in the clutch? The springs, fingers or something else? It could be the springs loose I guess.

    Question about gearbox rumble /rattle

Carbs synced, engine runs smooth as it can. I'll look into pressure plate bearings.

    Question about gearbox rumble /rattle

Thanks all - this is no chain rattle - definitely a shaft or something heavy, maybe the clutch answer is correct. Now we're opening up a bit perhaps I'll bump into our local experts to have their opinion. I don't want to strip it yet, the original engine needs to go back in, then I'll strip this...

    blown up engine1200cc

I would love to find one of these, will have a spare engine soon :)

    blown up engine1200cc

I'd be interested to see how a repair can be carried out on the thrust "bearing". Yes you can machine the casing true, and get a good crankshaft, but your clearances would be too wide unless a bronze thrust washer is fitted - but what holds it in? Maybe a ring?

    Question about gearbox rumble /rattle

Hi, my gen1 has a nasty sounding rumble/rattle which you can feel and hear on idle. You pull the clutch and it goes away, so not crankshaft. I will eventually pull this engine when I get around to building the one that it came with, but I'de be interested to hear from experienced owners. I'm...

    turn signal

Yes to this, don't bother with the arduino - unless it's doing something else more useful? Some years ago I did a degree project (BEng hons) that was using a Microchip pic to run efi and ignition. I spent ages trying to produce a square wave that varied in frequency according to a pot setting...

    turn signal

Hi, mine had an aftermarket flasher (not a simple bimetalic). (Oh, this is on a gen1 1985). Anyway, on mine the brown (feed) wire to the original flasher and the white on brown had been cut, the flasher connected to the loom end of these, and it worked with leds. Worked well, just didn't self...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Fitted a Virago speedometer to my gen1 trike - I can't see me going over 110 mph, and everything up to there is easier to read. The Vmax one was semi seized and noisy anyway.

    turn signal

Thanks for this, very informative. So my tenth of a mile isn't far out. It doesn't cancel on time, or at least not while the leds are in there.

    turn signal

400 feet Hmmm. I can't see why the virago clock would pulse differently, sure a tenth of a mile is too long, but better than nothing. We'll see what happens when I fit the resistors, but I don't expect it to change. Huw Just checked, 400'feet = .07 of a (British) mile. All the same I think? So...

    turn signal

This is very timely. My 86 vmax trike never self canceled - it has leds at the back, 21 W or whatever lamps at the front. Last weekend I replaced the worn out, noisy messed around with speedometer with a virago one. The original one had a fuse where the reed relay should have been! So, I...

    New motor build

It shouldn't be hard - if you have a liner set. A lot of work yes, and machining a v4 is way more time consuming than a straight4 - you not only have to bore the block, you also have to bore, then hone the block, as well as truing the top of the block. All I did with mine was to replace the...

    The End

As an outsider I don't expect I have much of a right to comment. But I will say that one, two, or even more wrongs don't make a right. History is history, you can only influence the future.

    EFI conversion on a Gen-1

You might be right, in that keeping the airflow high is just as important, with FI. Indeed, many car designers have the variable intake valves for just this reason. So ideal throttle bodies would retain the mikuni size butterfly and bore then? Makes sense to me.

    carb woes

Eh? Whhat trade agreement did the EU,have with the US? Didly squat, thats what, when it comes to mororbike parts anyway

    carb woes

I just like your engine stand, you've given me the idea, I fully intend to use it. Currently my engine is scattered around boxes all over the workshop.

    EFI conversion on a Gen-1

And let's give the vboost another mention - in standard form it seems to me to be opening rather too late whilst on wide open throttle - why do I say that? Well you feel the kick. Which means that before it opens the engine is being starved. For plodding around it's fine - better even, probably...
