Removed cylinder side cover, no coolant..

Thanks bud.. It has been a while but I still own both of them. I wasnt really looking forward to working on one, but once I got the garage cleared out and the bike up on the lift, I realized I had forgotten how much I like working on them

Removed cylinder side cover, no coolant..

The instructions don't mention the necessity of purging air from these four drains while filling, so I'm going to skip it because I don't want to break a cover screw.

Removed cylinder side cover, no coolant..

Thanks. Is this a important step, or only intended to drain more coolant? Because I don't want to break that last cover screw, and those rubber plugs are 38 years old..

Removed cylinder side cover, no coolant..

Hello folks. Hope your having a great day.. I'm changing out the coolant on a 85 and I have three cylinder side covers off but the last, as usual, wont come off. I don't think they've ever been off. I'll keep the screw wet with PB blaster and keep working it, but can someone tell me if...

    Lithium battery

Where you guys buying your shorai's? My local stealerships want me to buy a different battery..

    Lithium battery

Thanks for all that.. I'm learning that AGM's are picky about their charge, float voltages and amperage's.. And that smart charger engineers err to the side of under charged. Which in turn diminishes the life span of the battery.. 3 tenths of a volt shy on float voltage can reduce life span...

    Lithium battery

I'm trying to decide if to continue with odyssey, or jump ship to Shorai for three bikes.. Im only getting 6 reliable years from my odyssey's.. To be fair, even though my batteryminder charger is approved by odyssey, it charges and floats a little low. And a few tenths of a volt do make a big...

Time to let two 85's go in Iowa City..

I had some jingle in my pocket, had a family who helped around the house and HAD to have a true ram air Vmax. Things have changed but I'm keeping the DRZ because riding trails in the rockies is something everyone needs to put on their bucket list. But "been there done that" so maybe I should...

I didn't post this in the for sale section because I'm hoping someone local will swing over and look them over and make a offer.. Usually when folks are a long ways away, there's endless emails etc etc.. I know what I paid for them, but havent come up with a price as of yet..

Time to let two 85's go in Iowa City..

Morning folks.. I've decided to put my two 85 vmax's up for sale.. One I bought brand new in 86 and it's pretty much stock and runs well. The other one was built by Jon Cornell rip and I installed Rick Bachmann millennium true ram air scoops on it which are no longer available. Both could use...

what has happend to the forum

I still have email notifications, but since I'm not working on either of mine, I'm in other forums talking about full timing snowbirds, enclosed trailer conversions and dodge diesels etc. I just picked up the truck and want to travel as soon as I retire, but I'm having a hell of a time finding...

    Vmax Battery replacement 101

I'll be needing a new battery's for my 85's here soon but didn't have a good experience with a odyssey PC 310 for my DRZ400. It went bad in only two years, but I wrote it off because it was stored in a hot shed. But I just read.. "It seems the Odyssey batteries are not lasting as well as...

    Is it Spring yet ??

Were finally thawing here in Iowa City.. But I'm itching to get my garage queen truck out so I can go buy a cargo trailer to convert into a toyhauler so I can get the fuck out of this god forsaken state.. Its all in the name of cycling, but my favorite is a DRZ now because it takes me places...
