    Need help in Phoenix area

Hole is patched, went for a test ride and I'm still alive! I used some putty-like stuff called QuikSteel that can withstand constant heat up to 425 degrees and just put it over the hole. Where it was located was right where th case started to curve so a piece of flat aluminum or something...

    Need help in Phoenix area

That's exactly what I'm going to do. Drain the oil and check for debris too. I think I'm going to either use JB Weld SteelStik to form a slug that fills the hole OR put a metal washer over the hole and use regular JB Weld to secure that to the case. Hopefully I'll get it all done this...

I wondered about that, but I think JB Weld is a better option because the area I need to fix is pretty cramped. Might not be able to get FiberFix in there.

I wish I knew why it happened. I can't imagine that anything could have broken inside the trans to cause the hole to bust open, because then I likely wouldn't have been able to ride for as many miles as I did afterwards.

I'm not sure I follow. What kind of screen are you talking about? Do you put the JBW on this screen first and then lay it on the engine and JBW it to the engine? Sorry, my brain is a little slow...

    Need help in Phoenix area

See that's the thing. I ride the bike for at least 3 miles with it this way and there were no discernible issues. I'm afraid though that if I just JB Weld the hole shut that there'll be something more wrong inside the tranny that will cause an accident somehow.

    Need help in Phoenix area

I've thought about buying a new Vmax and just swapping all my parts over but the problem I have with that would be giving up my overdrive 5th gear. I don't know that I can live without that.

I'm still on a stock clutch and this happened when I was cruising gently, no hard shifts or launches.

    Need help in Phoenix area

I blew a hole (don't ask how because I have no clue lol) in the top side of the transmission case. I've pulled the motor before to install Sean's overdrive 5th gear and vowed never to do that again, especially now that I don't have space or the right tools. Does anyone know where or who I...

    Bouncy front wheel

I also have a Shinko on the front. It has been perfect for the most part. I remember it being a smooth ride after it was installed but I don't know if it was balanced then or not. I'll have to give that a shot! Definitely cheaper than taking it to a dealer to get the tire balanced.

    Bouncy front wheel

I don't run any air in the forks so that's not the issue. And this problem exists both before as well as after the spring change so too much oil couldn't be the culprit. Tire pressure was low when I did the springs and I filled it up then also. I'll have to jack it up and spin the tire to check...

    Bouncy front wheel

I just recently replaced my front stock suspension with some Progressives. Before this was done, my front wheel would bounce and it was worse as speed increased. After the suspension upgrade, it still happens but isn't as bad as before. I really don't notice it until I hit highway speeds. My...

Oil leak in one airbox pod

Yea I still have the separator in my airbox. Thankfully though, my airbox looks a LOT better than the picture you posted. That looks nasty!

Oil leak in one airbox pod

I did the Peashooter over the weekend and it seems to have helped ever so slightly but not enough. Wanted to do the shotgun but couldn't get the covers off of the slides. The screws all seem frozen and are only stripping when I try to break them loose. FML.

Oil leak in one airbox pod

Definitely not over-filled with oil, sight glass reads half. Blow-by could be possible. That's the least of my worries now though. Cleaned it all up and tried taking it out for a ride. The only way the bike stays running is if I keep the revs at/above 4k if I'm sitting still. When moving, it...

Oil leak in one airbox pod

So I'm trying to determine the cause of oil that leaks down the left side of my engine. I managed to locate the source (pic attached) but don't really know what could be causing this. The rubber pods, if that's what they are called, are brand new so I know that's not the culprit. I have tried...

Are harness the same for all years?

I'm thinking I should win that award. Here's the original very first thread ever talking about carb chains started by yours truly :) http://vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=7931&highlight=Chain

Are harness the same for all years?

Yup, sure was. Happened at a Quaker Steak and Lube bike night. Some guy was admiring the bike and told me that if I took the carb chains out it would give me more HP (he told me how much more but I don't remember what he said). Guy was a kook!
