Fits in venture. & royal star?

The block is basically the same thing and would bolt right in. As mentioned, the exhaust would be a problem. The difference is the exhaust ports of the heads. The ports on the VMX heads come straight out, where the ports on the Royal Star heads are splayed outwards on an angle so the head...

    Evolution of the Venture-Vmax Trans

They will all swap as long as you use the matching shift drum and forks.

    Valve spring compressor

Yes, but if you're not playing with the heads, if you're only swapping cams and springs, it's a lot easier to not have to pull the engine to do it. Not much you can do with the heads still in the bike anyway. On the bench, there are many options. Before I made this tool, I used a hydraulic...

    Valve spring compressor

Hey I appreciate that, really. Now I don't have to remember to make mention of the wrong dimension anymore when I give this to someone.

    Valve spring compressor

If you need to pull the springs with the heads and engine still in the bike, you'll need the pneumatic spark plug tool to hold the valves up. This is a piece of 1/8" pipe welded into an old spark plug and with a 1/4" pipe adapter welded on the other end to fit standard air lines. There was no...

    Valve spring compressor

The valve spacing is the only dimensional change. Fortunately when I was making mine, I measured the actual valve spacing just to double check the drawing or I would have been starting over. Any other non-critical differences can be seen in the pictures. Use a piece of 1/4" steel. A piece...

    Valve spring compressor

I can't take credit for the idea or the drawing, or I would fix the dimension on the drawing. I don't remember where I got it. I used 1/4" steel for the main bracket and threaded that. It's thick enough that it doesn't need additional nuts welded on. I used 1/2" black iron pipe for the other...

    Valve spring compressor

Here's a drawing of a valve spring compressor that works nicely on this engine. It bolts down to the camshaft caps and pushes down on the springs. It works with the engine in the bike or on the bench. I can post pictures of mine when the wife gets back with the digital camera. It's very...

    My ported and polished heads

What tools do you use on motorcycle heads? I've done a few automotive heads before with a pneumatic die grinder and bits, and I can't imagine using these size tools on a motorcycle head. I think I wouldn't be able to see around the tool. Did you maybe use a Dremel tool and smaller bits...

    No more clunking

There's no way a Madura transmission and shift drum would fit the VMX. (I am more curious about their 36mm carbs myself.)

    tire

A 165/80R15 car tire size is what fits. That size is a little hard to find. You'll have to do a little looking around. But they're out there.

I think that's the nicest looking set I've ever seen. Color matching them to the bike helps too.

    car tire??

What brand tire did you get? Did you happen to get an inside width measurement of the rim? Someone on here not long ago who also wanted to put a CT on his bike wanted to know that, as he was worried that the rim was too narrow to properly fit a CT.

Playboy centerfold the month I was born...

Miss May of which year? As an all time favorite, it's a tough call, I'd have to go with Miss October 1994 back on page 23. I'm not sure how to pronounce that last name, but I think that gal would make me bilingual. Now on to posting up the covers.

    "Dark Side" on the Max?

At this point, my calipers read about 4.55". I don't know what that means for the inside of the rim. I know our bikes take the same size rear MT. I'd probably give it a shot.

    Venture camshafts.

Venture cams have about 30? less duration and about .020" less lift too. I don't know why anyone would want to cork up the exhaust flow like that.

    "Dark Side" on the Max?

Boy, I don't remember how wide the rim is. I sure thought it was the same width as yours, but it's been a while since I've seen mine without a tire on it. Here are two pictures of a slow speed corner through a water puddle test. This shows a CT in the back next to a MT in the front. Sure...

    "Dark Side" on the Max?

I use one and like it. I have no trouble scraping pegs and wish the bike would let me lean over more. I have about 18,000 miles on mine so far and still going. No rim modification needed. The RSVs and Royal Stars take the same size rear tire as the VMX, 150/90-15. The CT size of 165/80R15...
