    miss when cold

It may vary from bike to bike, but mine will turn over (with full choke of course) at 35 degrees f without missing once.

    Highway Pegs

I ended up getting these pegs from motorcycle-superstore for 37 bucks, and put them on my bike yesterday. They look pretty much the same as the above picture, since I have the same engine guards as well. I love them! For 37 bucks I can't complain at all. Took about 15 minutes to install and...

    59k Mile Clutch

Hey guys, a few weeks ago I bought my "new" 88 Vmax with nearly 59k miles on it from the original owner. He has never replaced the clutch. Obviously its getting up there on the clock, but the clutch still grabs just fine and doesn't slip. He said he's never slipped the clutch (I assume he means...

    Gear

After roaming the board and web for a while I decided to pick up some new gear and thought I would share my initial thoughts about it for those in the market. I was looking for some gear I can wear year 'round that would keep me safe and comfortable, so I decided on mostly tour master stuff. I...

    Highway Pegs

Sorry Garrett, that answers my question, I was posting while you were so I didn't see your message about how you mounted your pegs. I'll PM you about your old pegs. Thanks guys!

    Highway Pegs

Yeah, I'm definitely not getting rid of my engine guards, I like that "just in case" protection. Your setup looks about like what I'm looking for. Can you answer the above question, did you put anything between the clamp and engine guard to keep it from slipping?

    Highway Pegs

I don't need anything fancy so if they worked for you they should work for me! One question, did you put anything between the bracket and engine guard? I've heard they tend to slip and putting some rubber between the two metals keeps them in place.

    Highway Pegs

Not sure if this is the right place to post, and I know highway pegs have been discussed before, but... I was hoping to get some suggestions. I've got engine guards (see picture, I think they're the Yamaha ones but I didn't put them on..) and I think I'd like to get some highway pegs so I can...

    Tachometer reading high

Should be easy enough, just grab any hot wire (I was unplugging the signal fuse before) and ground the other wire and it should read correctly, right? [Sanity check...]

    Tachometer reading high

Thanks, but I already returned the 4 cyl tach, I'm going to order an OEM tach from yankee.

    Tachometer reading high

All of the tachs seem to be 4, 6, 8 :( Anyways, I've come to the same conclusion, it can't really be the wiring since a tach should run off any wire in the electrical system (along with grounding it), right? So I PM'd yankee to grab one from him, for $20 I may as well just get this taken care...

    Tachometer reading high

Hmm, I'm having a hard time finding a 2 cyl tach... I've called advanced auto and autozone, neither carry one. There are a few motorcycle shops around but I'd like to avoid buying and returning at a small business... Any tips, I'm in Lansing, MI.

    Tachometer reading high

Hmm, read the previous post a bit too late... I got a 4 cyl tach and plugged it in and it was reading below zero rpms, but it was moving. If I blipped the throttle I could get it above 0 rpms but not by much. I didn't see any 2 cyl tachs at autozone so I guess I need to go looking around. Now...

    Tachometer reading high

Good idea, I'll probably give that a shot today. Thanks for the prompt responses!

    Tachometer reading high

It idles smooth as silk so I'm pretty sure its just the tach reading incorrectly. Do you think replacing it would fix it? I wondered if it might be a chaffed wire or something... If the consensus is that replacing it would fix it then yeah, I'll definitely pick one up from you yankee.

    Tachometer reading high

Don't worry about being to obvious, I'm new to this bike so I won't be insulted :) That being said, the previous owner informed me of the problem before I bought it, and I was definitely in 5th.

    Tachometer reading high

I'm having a minor problem with the tachometer reading incorrectly on my 1988 V-Max with 56k on it. I just bought it this week so I don't know a ton about it yet. The tach reads about 1500 idling and about 7k going 70, so its obviously way off. I don't have a ton of time to work on the bike this...

Are you a new member? Come here and say hi!

Hey guys, new member here. I just sold my 1987 Yamaha YX600 that treated me well this week and upgraded to a 1988 V-Max. I bought it from the original owner with 56k on it, its spent ever night of its life (until this week) in a garage, but its in covered parking with a nice bike cover on it...
