  1. GREEN light BLITZ

Good news to go with my terrible news.

She's running like a champ. After looking more in depth it was all my bad. I didn't drain the rad before the pump swap and while I fumbled to pop the water elbow off the front side all the coolant I didn't drain ran into the case on the backside. Lesson learned. No more shortcuts.

Good news to go with my terrible news.

I'm broke as a joke for a week. Buying the motor set the old wallet back hard so I'll flush it again next weekend and continue the method. So the question begs: Could the water pump being bad cause the water to get by? Did sloppy methods during the pump swap let it in? How many times has...

Good news to go with my terrible news.

I pulled the mid gear cover and strait coolant fell out followed by milk confirming your advice. The motor sounds awesome so I can't imagine it being critical but my paranoid self is fearing the possibilities. I'll continue flushing

Good news to go with my terrible news.

Good news is i found a motor for my Max. I put it in and fired I up. Sounds GREAT! Noticed quickly the water pump was spitting from the weeper. Ran the new motor bout 10 minutes. Result was TONS of water in the oil. Hoping the water pump was bunk I swapped pumps. Put fresh oil in it and fired it...

Gimme a fork boys, shes done.

Thank you! And no Sean it does not appear to have any case damage although I'm sure the bearing is history. I just don't have it in me to tear it down again. I'm lost without my bike.

We theorize that a a miss aligned pick up coil bracket might have caught the lip on the stator under WOT putting a load on just the end of the crank that snapped. It snapped just inside the case taking the first counter balance with it. So astoundingly it still fires right up if bump started but...

Gimme a fork boys, shes done.

I rode my Max pretty hard but not nearly as hard as some of these boys and at 50k she signed off. I can't go without a bike as long as I did last time the case had to be split.Riding season is upon us and my only other vehicles being my 1969 chevelle and my 1969 c-20 I need something that will...

Diagnosed the Vmax today. Evidently I broke the crank. I'm not rebuilding it again, so she's for sale. If she wont sell in a month on CL I'll part her out on here. Got a lot of good parts.

    Sorry comrads. Vmax last straw

I just had the motor apart a few hundred miles ago and now this. Last time I had it open it took me 6 months to get it back together while I budgeted in new parts and time. And that was a small repair. This is a full overhaul at this point. I can't even get it to turn over now.

    Sorry comrads. Vmax last straw

I found a doner bike for 2,500$ but that's well beyond my budget, and here in SoCal finding Vmax motors is HARD. If you call the local salvage yard they will tell you they have NO parts before you finish your sentence as soon as you say vmax

    Sorry comrads. Vmax last straw

Well folks after a long ride I took off from a stop light and at the next light I got really harsh clatter that sounds almost like a rod knock. I've yet to investigate and fully diagnose the issue but it may be terminal. I think its time to put down a loan on a newer bike but my Max is my...

    Don't blast me

A lot of these boys wait for it to cycle then unplug it while its open as an easy "full time boost". Make sure its plugged in first and foremost. Also check for random switches the previous owner might have overidden the silinoid too. If you don't hear it cycle it likely doesn't work.

    Flashing spark plug caps

Ran a set of em from JC Whitney for about a year then went COP. They look cool but cops are more efficient

    Dreaded fuel tank rust

Yess'ir...thats what I did. I can make absolutely no claims as to weather or not that does ANYTHING at all, BUT my bikes been running like a champion since and the magnets cant be seen without taking off the seat or sides bla bla bla. No harm no foul. :biglaugh: No "future rust" has occurred...

    Dreaded fuel tank rust

Personal experience (my was kept at lake front property before i got it so it was really badly rusted) you will never kill this problem without removing that tank one way or another. What Ive done=POR15 tank coating. Going on 5 years without trouble and its easier to do than "Kreem". Put...

    Good Deal?

It wont be FAST but I would buy it...I like little buzz around bikes for running to pay bills, get beer,or a backpack full of groceries or to just buzz over to a buddies. But I tend to go a little more "aftermarket" with mine. Like this 85 Nighthawk 450 I built. 45 miles to the gallon surface...

    Tacho Replacement

-Chiming in-:eusa_dance: Welcome to the forum, it just gets better from here! NOW...back to the tach. You can find it at Autozone although I think they might be in the process of phasing that model out. I know this because I have the same one in my Chevelle and it took alot of running around...
