    Motorycle For Sale 2004 VMAX

I’m selling my 04 VMAX. It has lots of nice custom touches and IMO is the perfect VMAX. It’s a higher mileage bike, this worried me somewhat when I bought it about two years ago. My fears were completely unfounded! It’s never let me down. My intent was to have a bike my wife and I could ride. I...

    Which oil to use

Have you ever had a gen1 Vmax and run synthetic? Clutch slipping with synthetic is not uncommon. Maybe just marginal from the factory …. Or maybe my clutch is worn. The DD mod always cures the slip though.

    Which oil to use

Imo the fact synthetic frequently causes clutch slippage it “must” lubricate “better” right? I like that. So do DD clutch mod to deal with slippage AND get the benefits synthetic offers. Just my opinion. Run what weight Yamaha recommends and don’t worry. 5-30, 5-40, 15-40 they all seem to work...

A lot of different tire and rim combinations.

Another example. Best handling mod possible. IMO.

    2nd Gen VMAX VMAX Newbie.

Looks good! Glad you didn’t black out the scoops. Enjoy! Edit. If you have the Yamaha race ECU hang on to it!

Preventing the dreaded second gear problem

It’s weird. I had a bad habit of missing second on my first VMAX. So I let my friend run it at the track to minimize the risk. Lol. NEVER jumped out of second though.

    Clutch options

I did DD mod, that’s all. factory original clutch with 32k mikes. 100% synthetic , you can’t make it slip.

    Seat choices

May have been said, but imo it’s not the amount of padding that makes a comfortable seat but the fit. Stock has a LOT of padding. I’d like to try a old star fighter seat, love the deep scooped look. But no way I’d give up my Morley cut seat.

    Which oil to use

    5-40 Rotella synthetic here.

    Gen. 1 suspension observations

Probably repeating what others said, radials, wheels, Morley extended swing arm, progressive fronts, couldn’t be more pleased with the handling. No solid mounts, no bracing.

1st Gen Clutch Upgrades, PCW clutch kit source

DD cured my clutch slipping with synthetic oil. Rotella T6 5w-40. Plus I like the firmer clutch pull.

    synthetic Oil

Mine slipped initially with Rotella T6 syn, but DD mod completely stopped the issue.

    synthetic Oil

I remember in the late 80’s Mobil 1 was $4.95 at autozone. You can get it at Walmart now , $25 for five quarts. Anyone know of any other product that’s the same price as it was 30 years ago? Curious.

    synthetic Oil

I wouldn’t consider Rotella T6 synthetic expensive. AND change it often. IMO

Seat thread. What are you sittin' on?

Morley cut seat. Don’t know the details but huge improvement over stock!

    Lithium battery

The restart feature is “neat” as long as it’s reliable. Never being stranded with a dead battery may be worth it to some. Others may feel the weight reduction is worth it. But yea, seriously doubt 2x the life of a std AGM battery.
