    Which air filter?

For my bike has RT-1 slip-ons but is otherwise mechanically stock as far as the engine goes. It's time for a new air filter. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on upgrades, but maybe up to $150 would be okay. Should I just get a stock replacement filter, or a K&N drop-in filter, or...

Close call at work 15Kv fault...

Glad to hear you're all right, Rusty. Yeah, it does bring all the safety gear usage into proper focus when we almost buy the farm.

What was your first (street) bike???

My first streetbike - '88 Honda XL600V Transalp. ON-OFF road bike with abias toward on. '96 Honda CB750 nighthawk. Handled like a V-max, accellerated like a moped. '99 Suzuki SV650 naked. Handled like a dream. Wish I hadn't sold it. '96 VMAX.

    Fatmax Hard Saddlebags

Sorry to be so long in responding, but I've been in frickin' Japan since the 20th. Just got internet access tonight. No, I'm afraid its one size fits all. But you might give Roger at Fatmax a call, he might can do something. Yes, you can absolutely carry a passenger. My wife says she...

    Fatmax Hard Saddlebags

Pictures as requested. My bags are the older style and are removable, but leave me with no turn signals. Bags come off pretty easily, they are held to the bracket by a couple of thumbscrews, and wires use a slip-on connector. Brackets look okay without the bags, but I never ride without the...

    Fatmax Hard Saddlebags

I've been using Fatmax Hardbags since Christmas of '05 from Fatmax.com. They really set the bike off, and come in real handy for keeping my rain gear, packing lunch to work, etc, and just look so much better than soft bags. Would not hesitate to buy from him again.:thumbs up:

What does your user name mean??

Guy I was training at work was obsessed with giving my bike a name. We were discussing something totally unrelated and I said something like"well, if that happens, we'll end up in a vicious cycle." He said "Dude, that'd be an awesome name for your bike!" Can't argue with that.

Are you a new member? Come here and say hi!

Re: Newbie here, just saying hi. Sweet!! I looked hard at the SV1000 before getting the max. Wish I had a bigger budget and more garage space.

Are you a new member? Come here and say hi!

Re: Newbie here, just saying hi. Hey Chris, is your other bike an SV650S? My last bike beofre the max was a '99 SV650 naked. If I could just get the max motor into the SV frame without it collapsing that would be bad azz!!!

New to forum and getting an 86 Max

How many miles on it? Low miles on an older bike might be okay, but 40K miles and 20 years gives you zero worry free miles left.

Shh... Lurking in progress. I may speak for the silent majority when I say that I have more to learn here than to share so far. I read most of what's written here, but don't reply much unless I can further the knowledge base. This is a great forum, and I'm glad to be a part of it, but I...

    Karma Time Bitchez

If you're going to strip it, I'd love to swap it for mine, and you can strip it instead. Mine is a stock seat that was stripped and then recovered with only a tiny layer of padding. (previous owner was short) I'd like something closer to stock. If you're interested in swapping, I'll pay...

    WTB....forward controls

Price would be $400 shipped, and would include left forward control with shifter and linkage, right forward control with rear brake lever and linkage, matching passenger foot pegs, and matching grips. I would just as soon keep the kit together, as it all matches. Buying the complete kit new...

    WTB....forward controls

My bike had forward controls on it when I bought it. I didn't like having my feet out in front of me on a bike that can scat like the vmax. It just feels wrong having to hang on to the bars when you're making a full throttle launch, instead of bracing my feet against the pegs. I kept them...

Top 10 reasons bikers don't wave back...

I do find that most other bikers will wave in Louisiana. I do have one guy I see on a Harley on my commute regularly that never waves. I waved everyday for about four days just to see. Nothing. Then one day here he comes. Still no wave, but he gave me the slow down hand motion. Pretty cool...

And us V-maxxers always wave back, even though we're risking death because of the front end wobble:smileystooges:

    Red "oil level" lamp

Think of it this way...your oil pump is drawing oil from the rear of the sump. The level switch that tells the red light to come on is at the front. Under acceleration, the oil is forced to the rear of the sump, causing the level switch to indicate no oil, but from a lubrication standpoint...

    Red "oil level" lamp

Yes, it is normal for the oil light to come on under hard acceleration. That's the level indication. The oil pickup is towards the rear I've been told, so there are no issues with oil pressure under full throttle conditions.
