I used to have an 85 and had to replace second gear. It only cost me about 600, but there is a lot of labor involved. Keep your clutch system well maintained. If not your trans will suffer on any year bike.

I think all the difference was no vboost and different jetting. I may be wrong about the jetting though.

I wondered about the quality of those kits. They are cheap, relative to oem parts. But i will continue to overpay, but only pay once.

I've read that Dot 5 is more compressible than the rest. Anyone using dot 5 notice this? I hate the fact that the dot 4 i use now eats the paint, but i like not having a spongy brake or clutch.

I had a similar problem and I had spark. My solution was the carbs just needed a deep cleaning and the floats set. (ie everything apart)
