Cam timing marks on cam caps?

See Photo The book says to line the appropriate cam index holes up with the mark. On my 99 there is a thin line that looks sorta of like a casting line that is straight up 12 o'clock. Just to the right of that (for all caps, they're all identical except for the location stamping)...

my 98 max, running an undercut trans h.d. clutch etc. came out of gear the other day when I rolled off throttle over bumps (my fault was wearing steel caps so had shifter loaded) . The bike locked itself out of gear think its a faulse N possibly between 2nd and 3rd, have removed clutch side...

    Damage near cam buckets

I was looking for what sounded like a loose tappet. None of the clearances were loose. Most of them were too tight. I've set the clearances now, but when I was doing it I noticed that 2 of the buckets wouldn't turn. I pulled them out to try and free them up, and found slight damage in the...

    Cam degreeing

How hard is it to degree the cams on the Vmax if you're using the Slotted cam sprockets? Anyone ever done this....???? I'm wondering about this in case my 13:1 compression turns out to have to much cranking compression, as well as trying to squeeze more top end power out of it....... Sean...

    Finally the cam timing specs.

I used a degree wheel and piston stop to get true top dead center, which by the way is spot on with the timing mark on the rotor. Intake: Open @ 11.5* BTDC Duration 230.5* Close @ 39* ABDC Lobe center 103.75* Exhaust Open @ 41* BBDC Duration 235*...

    Oil pressure, cam bearings??

It occured to me while taking my engine apart that there are no cam bearings???? Could this be one of the places where oil pressure is lost on higher mileage Maxes that exhibit good rod and journal bearings, i.e. no visible wear???? Also.... I wonder if these engines have places that...

    Cam Chains

..So the 86 I bought had wasted con rod bearings/damaged crank and ALOT of metal circulating throughout the engine.. I bought a replacement crank from a 96 a year ago..Well I thought I would go back and get the cam chains too - AFTER seeing how much metal shaving were imbedded into the oil pump...

    Broken cam cap

This site has been great, for the positive and helpful feedback on my VMax challanges. My next challange (and I have a lot of vmax challanges) is that the rocker cover has retaining bolts that attach into the cam caps to hold the rocker cover in place. one of these cam caps has been...

    Cam application

Would a set of PCW 380 lift cams and their stage 1 heads be good on a stock bore vmax motor? If I used stock bore but decked the block to raise compression and tighten the squish band would it work well? I have thought of doing this and maybe lightening the flywheel. I will run stock carbs...

    Cam swap

I can't seem to find where I got the info, but I was looking at the PCW 3 cams and I was thinking it was in the neighborhood of almost 10 rwhp or something in that area. This being said, it's 700 for cams, 125 for spring kit, and whatever for gaskets so I'm around $900.00 to do cams. Is it...
