exhaust

I want to replace the stock exhaust with something with a little more sound. Can someone describe the difference I see in the different options I have read about; x-pipe, h-pipe, straight.... Will a slip on exhaust give me a much deeper sound or do I need to replace the headers as well...

I have the a set of black chrome pipes off of a 97 vmax. It is rare since most of them came with a regular chrome. They were only used for about a year until I put aftermarket pipes on it. I am asking $500 or best offer. I can ship it anywhere. It also comes with the original bolt.
