    Question about 85 front forks

I'd like to paint the bottom of my forks on my 85 Max. Anyone know off the top of their head what kind of metal the bottom section of the forks are made of? Would it be aluminum by chance? I posted this in the suspension forum but I was told I'd get quicker resonses here. Sorry about the double...

    Blown air seals on forks

Hi All I've just taken delivery of progressive springs for my 88 and I'm fairly sure the air seals are blown. I've noticed a lot of you run with no air anyway, BUT is the air damping integral to the rest of the forks operation? In other words if I don't fix the seals will it matter? Thanks in...

    Question about 2000 forks

Hi, in in the process of dissassembling my forks. I can't find the air valve to remove air pressure. Is there a difference between my 43mm forks and the one in vmaxoutlaw service manual? Do i really need to remove air pressure? Thanks!

    FZX700 Forks???

I have a fzx700 parts bike. Wondering if anyone has ever installed the front forks and tire setup on a max? It like the idea of the smaller front tire, but not sure if it would lower the bike too much....

Busa inverted forks on a Vmax

Hey guys so the journey continues towards making the Vmax a modern machine...one of my front shocks is almost gone so there are now two possibilities. Either I rebuild the shocks or (according to my main man and mechanic) slap a pair of Busa inverted forks on the old Vmax. It so happens that I...

does bug guard fit older forks?

Hi! I have -00 Vmax without the bug guard at the forks. Do these bug guards fit the -00 forks? http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/500452aef8700209bc792436/front-fork If i'm unclear then the question is if part nr 42 will fit -00 forks. Does these actually benefit in any way or...

chrome or polished front lower forks.

I m an old fart and not a big fan of the blacked out look of my 2005 . I've already had the front and rear rims polished to a chrome like shine and IMHO they look much better. I now want to have the front lower forks polished but I see there is some rubber on there that of course can not be...

I recently purchased a Cycle One Off front end and am selling the forks from my 97. The forks have new Yamaha seals and wipers, new Progressive lowering springs and 15 weight oil. The tubes were polished and assembled by FCR Suspension in East Palestine, Ohio the beginning of last season. The...

    Raising Front Forks

So when I bought my bike it had racetech fork internals lowered 2" I believe. Now I am looking to raise them back up at least an inch since I am 6'4. Any simple way of doing this besides buying the proper spring kit ect?

Going to Prog springs, what oil?

OK so tomorrow I am trashing those soft OEM springs in favor of Progreassive ones, thanks to Kevman. In the past (with spindly forks on '86 + prog ) I used 15W fork oil, and felt an improvement. I also seem to remember someone (was it Sean?) saying you could use ATF as fork fluid, but not...

install drain plugs on lower forks

Hello, I'm going to put progressive springs in the forks and I noticed that if I ever want to change my fork oil in the future I will have to remove the forks or turn my bike upside down, I'd rather have drain plugs to drain the fluid. It looks like there is a place to install plugs if I wanted...

Is there a write up on how to remove the springs from front forks????

I am thinking about lowering the front of my bike. I was thinking about just removing the springs and cutting a couple inches off. If I ruin them then oh well, I will just buy a set of progressive lowering springs, so I will have nothing to lose if I screw it up. I really dont know squat about...
