1985 Vmax Stock Exhaust

Hello all, was hoping to get some direction. I have a stock Yamaha 1985 exhaust and have exhaust leaks coming from the two rear pipes at the headers. I purchased new copper washers and am having problems with them seating and sealing properly, I have lined the exhaust covers up and have snugged all from the rear to the mufflers but the right side pipe keeps slipping out of the header and never tightens even when the clamp is all the way tight. Any help would greatly be appreciated with this!
