Hello everyone,

About a 220cv 1700 Vmax.
I would like to change the rear wheel of the Vmax 1700.
The original size is 200mm large, I would like to change to a 240mm.

Of course mounting a larger gummy, normally the handling could be worse.
However, my friend owns a Ducati Diavel with a 240mm, and the handling is not bad a all on this bike, this is really nice looking as well.

So, I would like to kwow if someone have tried on the Vmax? Your feelings and recommandations?
And if possible, do you know a well curved tire in this size? I mean not too flat...
Which tire model could be the best option (at least not the worriest option) in cornering drive...

I haven't done this to mine, but I have ridden one. It was pretty nice. The turning takes a bit more, and I have heard that it will drop a couple horses, but I would like to do it to mine sometime. Check out starvmax.com. They have several threads on the 240 conversion.
 
I have purchased 2009 model and have been browsing for a 240 size tire for rear. Looking for a rear wide rim kit as supplied from Yamaha however it seems to be out of stock. First I want to ask someone what is the width of the original wide rim kit as supplied by OEM. Second please guide me to trusted providers from where i can purchase or have rim widening services. Also what are the recommend tires for 120 and 240 combinations on 18 inch rims.
 
I was lucky enough to be able to pick up a 240 wide wheel kit and am excited about getting this put on in the spring. But when I picked up my 2010, it had a new 200 on it, and needed a new front tire. I would suggest giving the 130 a try for the front. The bike handles so much better (to me) with the 130 on the front. My M109 came with a 130, 240 michelin combo on it, and I loved the way it handled. I can only imagine how well this bike will handle with the same tire combo. Good luck.

I have a 240 on mine. Love it. Handles great with Metzeler tires. Rear: 240/40 VR 18 and changed the front to 120/70 ZR 18. Powder coated the rims to match the bike too.

I have a 2018 VMax and I do agree the stock tire is too narrow. WTF were they thinking!? I honestly think that a 220 would be the biggest I would want to put on the bike. I had a M109R and it had a 240. I think it would look way too big for this bike.

I bought the bike used and it was on it and as far as I was told it is the original rim. Check with your local shop and see. However there was a lot of work done to the bike by the previous owner and not 100% sure. Custom billet work all over, full exhaust, Yamaha racing ECU, K&N, brake lines, levers etc. Dyno’d at 189 RWHP at 173 MPH.

I was lucky enough to pick up a used one that had just been put on a bike. The new owner of the bike didn't want to pay the extra for the kit, so i bought it. I also had a M109, and I had a 240, 250 and 260 tire. They all handled well with a little practice. I upgraded the front to a 130 because it helped in the slow parking lot handling. As for tires, I plan on going with a michelin 130, 240 setup. That worked great for me on the M109. The cornering was great due to the roundness of the tires.

Hi guys, sorry for maybe stupid questions, I am new to the VMax, always have Super Sport bikes and just got a 2013 V Max so I can ride with my girlfriend, I would like to get a wider rear tire...what I am looking at? wheel and complete swing arm? Have not found much of anything here in U.S. for this conversion.... or any useful accessories for it...front foot rest, crash bars etc

Also, my bike is really bad in a gravel driveway, looks to me that the front tire is getting a lot of weight or the CG is too forward in this bike, I need go basically walking the bike out on gravel as the front tire gives a impression that will get you in the dirt at any time, I can't believe that Yamaha not only did not placed a steering damper in it from factory, but also made impossible by design to adapt one....any suggestions on my loose feel front end?

The vmax is a heavy weight compared to your sport bikes, weighing in at 680lbs. And 400 of that is just the engine alone. There is a reason the weight is forward, this bike was designed to go as fast as possible in a straight line........ But it's very nimble for it's size. Steering damper is a waste of time and money atleast it was on a gen 1 vmax, gen 2 doesn't need it, just adds weight. check the steering head bearings, front tire pressure. Riding on gravel is like riding on marbles with any kind of motorcycle...... Try it on a goldwing that weighs 900lbs. There are a set of foot rests that bolt on the side covers on the engine, but I don't know where to find them. I've seen pics. Not designed for any real weight as the only thing holding them on are the 3 tiny side cover bolts. There are no engine guards as the engine is a stressed member of the frame, and the frame doesn't "cradle" the engine like most motorcycles, so there really isn't a place to mount one.
As for the wide wheel I think it's a set of bearings and a different spacer, Yamaha discontinued the 240 wheel a few years ago, so it's like finding the needle in the hay stack.
Sean Morley is the go to for parts, it's all he works on I swear, lol. He might be able to help you if your serious about the 240 wheel.

No doubt a bike of the VMa'xs heft can be a bit squirrelly on anything but a paved surface. If part of the problem is not feeling secure because your feet aren't flat on the ground you might consider getting your seat cut or lowering the bike 1 or 2 inches. Lowering the bike will of course will limit how aggressively you can corner so, that might not be real appealing to you coming off sport bikes.

I don't think you'll be happy with the effect of the 240 tire either, it significantly increases the effort needed to turn the bike, with some tires being worse than others depending on their profile.

I think after some seat time you will become more comfortable.
 
If/when you do want a 240 I can help get one made up for you.
