I am wondering about the condition of the trans. The engine was out when i took possesion, so I don't know if there is an issue. It looks good and shifts positive (cases are split). I have heard of second gear problems . is there something I should look for? concerned. much thanks for any tips.

The dogs on the second gearset and the corresponding oval holes into which they mesh will be rounded-over. Look at another gearset's dogs and holes and compare. Sean probably has some pics of what it looks like.
