I tried sitting on one of those and it felt like a Boss Hog or whatever those V8 bikes are called. Sitting on it, I expected a specialist doctor was coming to examine me, holding a speculum, "now, let's see what's going-on in there!"

San Jose BMW did a turbo edition of the prior triple which was supposed to be a rocket ship. I dunno if they did one for this series.

The bike does have good lines, and I like the fact it's a single-sided swingarm. It's about 50 lbs more than a Gen. 1 VMax, its dry weight is 641 lbs.

Lmao, I could not imagine it being turbo. This bike is a beast. People say the 1200 vmax will keep up with the Rocket, no F'ing way, I know from experience. Takes about all my arm strength to hold on when she is wide open. She is heavy though and you have the massive fuel tank between your legs. When I have a passenger can't even tell they are back there.

I have not ridden anything newer that around a 2012 rocket. It was a tourqe monster and was fun . It was by buddy's and I smoked him everytime I raced him and we switched bike same outcome. I know they are making more power now so the outcome could be different

Mine is a 2021 rated at 165HP and about the same for torque. I do have aftermarket exhaust. I know when I finish riding the Vmax and jump on the Rocket there is no comparison. But at the same time I think my Vmax is not running full power and that's why it's in pieces. Just finished rebuilding carbs found a couple problems with the floats and little piles of rust in bowls clean carbs thoroughly and back together on to the next part.

Hey guys. I’ve got a 1994 model that I’m looking to sell while or part out. It’s in pretty great shape overall. It’s got just over 50k on it, still runs and rides great. Problem is that it’s stuck in 4th and 5th gear right now. I’m pretty sure the 1-3 shift fork either bent or broke. Didn’t make any weird noises or anything, just wouldn’t go down into first, then second, then third while riding. That all happened within about 2 minutes a few months ago. I’ve been running it on the center stand every so often since. It’s got dual pipes on it with Kerker mufflers, idk, it was like that when I got it. Sounds great, just loud. Could probably use a re packing. It’s got the stage 7 or whatever k&n pod filter setup on it. It’s got forward controls, bar end mirrors, aftermarket taillight/turn signal(not pictured yet sorry). Everything works great except the mentioned transmission issue. I was riding it nearly every day before that happened. It’s got basically brand new METZLER ME888 tires on it(~2,000mi).

If anybody is interested in the whole bike, I would definitely consider selling it whole. If nobody wants the whole thing, I’ll probably keep the motor for a future crazy project of some kind, like an ATV engine swap, unless someone makes a good offer on it.

The chances of me fixing it and riding it next year are real slim. I’ve got my eye on a brand new Triumph Rocket 3 GT. Any other questions, feel free to ask, but I think I covered most everything here. Thanks guys

April 14, 2020 edition of Cycle World Rickey Gadson, after 17 runs, laid a 10.562 @ 126.41mph on a 2020 Rocket 3R. CW dyno numbers: 134.7hp @ 5600 rpms and 142.5lbft @ 3900. 677lbs (not sure if that was wet or dry.
Everyone knows about Jay Gleason running mid-10’s on a pre-production ‘85 but a Cycle World staffer got a 10.89 out of a production unit.
For comparison Gleason ran a 9.531 @ 143.7 on a 2009.

I get you really-like the Triumph, with an engine twice the size of the Generation 1 VMax. I'm sure people who own those are proud of their purchase. But I'm disappointed that one of the top drag-racers ever could barely beat the Generation 1's performance, with an experienced rider in the saddle, a bike designed and built when The Great Communicator, Ronnie Reagan was in-office, which remained pretty-much unchanged for 22 years.

About the Jay Gleason runs on the first-year VMax, which I've posted multiple times previously (10,27 seconds at the Las Vegas Yamaha dealer's show, which he duplicated at Baylands racetrack in CA a few weeks later), his margin over the Rocket 3 times you've posted was nearly the same as Rickey Gadson's times over the Jeff Carr-Cycle World times.

When the Rocket 3 was released, I went to the Miami dealer and sat on one. I was in the saddle, trying to get comfortable, but I couldn't and I declined a test ride. For me at under 6' and 185 lbs. it was not comfortable-enough to imagine me in the saddle for hours. I've never had any serious trouble fitting a VMax, and I've tried three saddles (one of course being the OEM), and the one which is on the bike the longest is a Corbin gel.

Here's the Cycle World article: Taking It To the Nines | Cycle World | MARCH 1987 Most-impressive is that the VMax was a stock internals engine, while the Kawasaki Eliminator was converted to chain-drive, a wider rear wheel/swingarm and a turbo (which blew-up) and the Suzuki GSXR1100 had the cases split also, so Vance and Hines could fill them with parts sufficient to boost the stock GSXR1100 from 111 RWHP to 159 RWHP which is a 43% increase. While an impressive achievement, how-much do you think that would cost? A hint: it was > 43% of the cost of a new GSXR1100. The VMax, stock engine internals, turned a 9.69 seconds at 135.74 mph. Again, that's with Jay Gleason.

Now, whatever someone chooses to ride, I wish them well, safe travels, and if you encounter something interesting, post it up. I'm not a proficient person on the quarter-mile, so you won't get any dragstrip data from me that I did. If you run your Rocket 3 and do well, I'll be one of the guys congratulating your run.
