How did you all get rid of the high speed front end wobble on 1986 Vmax?

New member here. 2009 VMAX 1700 is my recent acquisition, have couple of other bikes as well. I like big well designed engines, so Rocket III, Honda Rune and VMAX are the ones that I will keep "forever"... which translates for a very long time :) Came here obviously for knowledge and experience. I am based in Europe (Slovakia).

Hey everyone, just picked up a 1985 yamaha vmax today. Have always loved the look of these bikes but when they pop up for sale prices are usually to high for me to justify grabbing one. This one popped up on facebook marketplace and was posted for $1,000. Immediatly messaged the seller for info. Bike had sat for a few years under a cover in the backyard, owner passed away and the brother figured he would post up for sale since he would never get around to messing with it. Has 44k miles and is a bit weathered but certainly can be saved. Payed $900 for it. He had a battery that was nearly dead but was enough to hear the motor turn over so I knew it wasnt seized. Loaded on the trailer and brought it home.

Later in the day i hooked up some jumper cables to another good battery so i could see it turn over a bit stronger and wouldnt ya know it fired up! Couldnt believe it. Even ran off choke just idles a bit low. Can tell it needs a thorough tuneup but it's a runner. Clutch has no pressure but was able to ride the bike with a little bit of a rolling start and dropping it into gear. Didnt hammer on it but wanted to make sure it would ride and it did. Unfortunatly have a hip surgery for tomorrow july 9th that will have me out of commission for a bit but wanted to join the forum for some advice and info so I can start chipping away at it as i heal up. Look forward to having some fun on this beast!

Looks great for 900 bucks.
Pictures make it look a bit cleaner than it is but for being 35 years old and sitting outside a few years it could be a lot worse. Dont plan to restore it to perfect cosmetic shape but will do little things to it. Maybe have some of the easier to remove parts powdercoated and whatnot. New tires and the usual tuneup stuff. Still cant believe it started and ran/rode after sitting. Have to figure out what's up with the clutch. Couldnt bleed it with the normal pump lever and crack bleeder method. Might need to get a vac gauge and pull fluid that way. May e rebuild master and slave etc... was still able to ride giving it a push start and dropping into gear. Damn this bike flys even not running perfect. Always wanted one and never thought I'd get one let alone for $900. I'm sure I'll have more posts up soon looking for advice. In the hospital right now just have ligament repair surgery on my right hip so I'll be tied up for a short while with recovery.

Hey, newbie here. Got my 1994 Vmax with 30,000 miles on June 9th. Wondering if there is someone in or around the Alameda/San Francisco/Oakland California area that knows about V-Maxes and would be willing to help me out with my V-Max. Its not quite running right. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

"Hi" everyone on here :)
I'm new to the whole VMax ownership, so far its been great. Bought it last year from a private collector with only 160 miles on it for 15,000 (UK pounds). Awesome bike and quite rare here too. (pics are from the day i picked it up)

Looks great - maybe the only 17 plate in the UK as they officially stopped selling them new in 2016. Which part of the country are you in?

I'm down south (Portsmouth, Hampshire). I got it serviced in Crescent Yamaha in Verwood and they just sold a '17' plate for over 17K, so i think i got a good deal buying it.

Jumped on here about three weeks ago. Had an 85 Max and was ready to add a Gen2 to the stable with my Raider. Bought a 16 with 5500 miles basically stock, Galaxy Blue same as my 14 Raider. Hopefully to be delivered this week. More pix after I have in my possession. Thanks guys!

Hi, just bought a 1994 v-max in what I consider very good shape for $2500. Can't believe these bikes are going that cheap. I rode one in 1986 and wanted one since. I can't find anything wrong with it. The only things is it kind of sneezes every once in awhile under 2000 RPM. I'm thinking that might be normal since it is a high RPM bike.

This seems to be a nice place with lots of good information. Glad to be here.

Hi All,
New VMax owner, 1996 I bought for $200. Had been sitting for 4 years, with questionable title transfer. I got that cleared up after DMV reopened. I got it home, on a trailer, bought a new battery and new gas and she started right up, but rough. Clutch does not work, but it does go into gear. 00B4BB00-2516-43B5-A9BC-7B45B3A75B78.jpeg

hello, just bought a basket case 1988 that had been sitting for 10 years really cheap. I don't have experience with vmax bikes so I joined the forums looking for information when I run into roadblocks. It looks like there has been some aftermarket work, headers, nitrous. tons of stock extras all across my workbench not pictured.
