'Mirror bedding compound' is just what's used to quell vibration. It could be some type of gasket, or a pliable material between the metal mirror frame and the glass. With time and exposure to UV rays, that material can deteriorate and the mirror glass is no-longer securely held in-place, rendering the mirror useless due-to vibration while underway.
