Quick update-it ended up mostly being that return hole. Changing the oil did nothing, still slips just barely at the higher end of the range, but I'm going to do a spring conversion and see how it pans out. Definitely blew one of my fork seals out on the test ride after clearing it, she didn't wheelie with that hole plugged but she sure does now and it scared me half to death.
I run the Rotella T4 going on 4th season now with no issues. Glad you found most of the issue
