As some of you know I'm stripping my bike down pretty much to the frame this winter, I'm down to engine removal this weekend. I'm also a jet engine Mechanic so I know my way around a tool and a manual, with that said I think I take very good care of my bike, but when I removed the rubber boots off of the intake runners I couldn't believe my eyes. 12 years of use brought cracks nearly all the way through the sides. New ones are on order. These cracks were really sneaky cuz you really couldn't see them clamped in place, some were on the inside. Those of you with poor running bikes might take a look and see if air isn't slipping into the engine through these cracks. Mine ran fine, but it was only a matter of time.

I have the same issue with my 89. I just noticed it when I removed the carbs
I just bought some 2nd hand ones coming from ebay which are as good as new and for a sweet price.
