Are sure you mean fuel pump?

If your bike is full power, then the tacho signal goes to the vboost module. EVERY TIME the ignition is turned on, the servo motor opens then closes a valve, you will hear two bursts. I suppose the best way to describe the sound is a buzz.

The fuel pump only runs to top up the carbs So turning on the ignition and NOT RUNNING the engine means the pump does not run. You hear a clicking sound when it runs.

I am not there to see how you have wired up but there is no reason why an aftermarket tacho won't work.
