does bug guard fit older forks?

Hi!

I have -00 Vmax without the bug guard at the forks. Do these bug guards fit the -00 forks?

If i'm unclear then the question is if part nr 42 will fit -00 forks.

Does these actually benefit in any way or are these just visual?

Should fit!! Stops rocks and bugs from hitting wear tube slides in and out ..

They're stone guards. Older bikes often have pitting from being hit by grit, sand, stone etc. they are not interchangeable to fork lowers of earlier years. There was just a thread of fork gaiters which are like a rubber bellows that go around the circumference of the upper fork tubes. They are common on dirt bikes.

OEM rock guards were installed on '02 and newer forks....those forks are machined to accept them, older forks were not.

Didn't realize that but it makes sense....'01 & '02 were a matching pair (faded C/F) and if the '02's had them it's logical the '01's would too.

darn! so they wouldn´t fit my 2000 vmax even though they have the same circumference? looking at the parts chart doesn't show any major differences.

'Fraid not....the '01's and newer have a groove machined in the top of the lower tube to accept the rock guards....'00 & older don't have that groove.

Not sure on either size but couldn't he split rock cove in the back and use 2 sided tape ?

I bought some 2003 forks on eBay to replace my 97's just to get the fork protectors. Sold my 97's on eBay to recoup some of the money.

For info the fork protectors for the 43mm forks (249H) are out of stock for 3-4 months.
