does bug guard fit older forks?

They're stone guards. Older bikes often have pitting from being hit by grit, sand, stone etc. they are not interchangeable to fork lowers of earlier years. There was just a thread of fork gaiters which are like a rubber bellows that go around the circumference of the upper fork tubes. They are common on dirt bikes.
 
darn! so they wouldn´t fit my 2000 vmax even though they have the same circumference? looking at the parts chart doesn't show any major differences.

'Fraid not....the '01's and newer have a groove machined in the top of the lower tube to accept the rock guards....'00 & older don't have that groove.
 
I bought some 2003 forks on eBay to replace my 97's just to get the fork protectors. Sold my 97's on eBay to recoup some of the money.
