Is there any way you can support the gen 2 if you need to remove the front wheel, without special tools?

You really need a pit stand type lift to do it correctly. The oil pan is quite strong but lifting there will be a real balancing act.

With straps around the upper triple and rafters/ceiling/engine hoist works well if you have any of that available.

I put the rear stand under ours, and then place a normal floor jack under the oil pan with a 4" board across the whole pan for support.

K&L makes a "special tool" that would be nice, if a guy had the money to buy one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-L-Supply-...1056906626&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

The real trick is supporting the rear of a gen II while changing out the back tire after the 240mm tire/wheel mod. PITA w/o a proper bike lift to secure the front end from wiggling around. This is where a good, patient wifey comes into play quite well.
