I have a 85 vmax and it has been sitting for 2 years. i pulled off the carbs and cleaned them and then i noticed alot of water in the fuel tank. i removed that and then when i turned the key on to see if the fuel pump was working it spit out water and rust. i kept turning off and on until the pump ran clear. ok hear comes the interesting part. i put the bike back together and it ran pretty good. after a short while it was cutting out while riding. then the bike became harder to start. now when i try to start the bike the fuel pump doesnt even start. i checked the voltage coming to the starter and it is about 10v. when i hook the pump directly to the battery it runs fine. could the pump be bad?

Sounds like there is an electrical issue.....and the bike isn't charging. To start....and start well. ..you need to have 12.5 volts at the battery.
