Opening the garage door just got easier.
I spent the morning installing a remote garage door opener on my 05. I started with a skylink universal garage door opener that I ordered off eBay. You could probably get away with any opener but I like this one because its small so its easy to hide.
I disassembled the remote and with the removal of the only screw, the printed circuit board was off.
The switch your looking for is in the middle of the board ( see pic with blue arrow).
Flip the board over and you'll see the two solder points. I used solid core copper wire that I picked up at radio shack for the job. All that you want to do is solder a two pieces of wire, one from each lead from the back of the switch. ( see pic with red arrows).
After with a notch cut in the side of the remotes case, and a little red RTV to seal it up, it was ready to mount. I mounted mine in front of the overflow tank. there's about 1/4 inch clearance between the tank cap and the remote.
I picked up a push button switch (normally off) on ebay and made a bracket for it and my grip heater switch on the left side of the bars.

Great write-up for a fantastic idea.
I did something similar with mine. But instead of buying another unit, I just altered the one from my truck. Then just drilled and mounted the push button on the left controls. The rest of the unit just sits on top of my airbox.

I like the interchangeable remote idea. But with me, only the bikes are in the garage . I did the same thing on my wing a few years ago, and really like the idea of not having to get off the bike to open the door.

I like that a lot more than my current method I having the remote in my front pocket so I can hit the button through the fabric.

Thanks for sharing the tip!

My bike is garage kept, I just back the truck out during the summer (it only gets driven a few times during summer). Then when winter time hits, the bike goes to the back of the garage and the Dodge gets garage time with the Hawkmobile. When a rig freezes up at -60 it's a pain in the ass. so all the vehicles stay in the garage.

I use the Flash2Pass on my bike and my car, works great.

I bought a similar product but different. It was cheap and I guess I got what I paid for because it has NO range at all...I mean my front tire has to be touching the garage door and sometimes I still need to switch it a few times.....been meaning to buy a better one because the concept is definetely a nice feature to use on a daily basis......

Hi Vegas
I mounted a similar one to open my garage, but decided to mount inside my front headlight, and use my Horn as the switch. VMAX horn is useless anyways......Love it.

I have the flash to pass just installed in my bike. Range is not great compared to the stock remote but works fine for me.
